It's not only the ladies...

It's not only the ladies who are put off by some of the ads...
I've been scrolling through the photo ads in the "Women seeking Men" category and a couple of them, despite offering what I would like, put me straight off because they were so "in your face".
I like a bit of a discretion, even a chance to flirt...
I was just wondering: If crude, unimaginative people write crude, unimaginative ads, should we really complain? I mean, they're telling us something important about themselves aren't they? If we tell them their ads put us off, they'll ask for advice on how to write better ones. That would be a bit like job applicants asking the employer to write their resumés for them. Wouldn't it be better to let them be themselves so we can make an informed choice about whether to contact them or not, rather than be misled by a brilliant ad that was effectively written by someone other than the advertiser?
If I read a sophisticated and creative ad, I'd like to think it was composed by a sophisticated and creative person, not written to a formula devised by studying complaints about rubbish ads.

I think this is a very good point and doesn't just apply to ads - I tend to be myself as much as possible on this forum and hope that "RogertheDragon" reflects my real life personality quite well, that way if someone likes what they read on here hopefully they will like me in real life. I also like other people to be the same, there are various people who I have looked forward to meeting based on the content of their forum posts and I have yet to be disappointed.
I fail to see the point in pretending to be something you're not whether it be in an ad. or not.
Roger the Dragon.
Put it this way if people seem too "in your face" from their ad's what the hell would they be like if you met them!!??

I may be crude but I have one hell of an imagination

Careful! Some might take it you're a green, scaly fire hazard with a penchant for putting damsels in distress. lol

I agree, it's the unimaginative bit that is unappealing.
Besides, don't those sort of ads come across more like the puerile graffiti you sometimes find in men's toilets than a genuine appeal for partners in sexual adventuring? I'd be surprised if any of them result in actual liasons. Perhaps someone can claim otherwise?
