i've decided (well, i and 3-4 friends) to try and sod off (no jokes please) over the new year to somewhere more fun and exciting where the big yellow disc lives in the sky and keeps everything warm (or maybe skiing, not sure).
Soooooo, i'm looking for suggestions for a couple of weeks away. don't want to lie on the beach all day or sit in some all inclusive resort, other than that i think we're all open to suggestions. budget looks like £500-750ish so, any ideas???? dunno

Where the yellow disc is in the amusement arcade!
What about Venice - not too smelly this time of year. May be a bit late now though. I was in Madrid the other week and found it much more interesting than I thought - made up me mind to go back when I have more time.

Macedonia? We have lots of members over the road that would love to meet up with a bunch of guys? wink

Good reminder about Jabs/malaria tablets Fem - may put a limit on where you go short notice
For sunshine and a nice climate in January I'd go with either Egypt, Canary Islands or Gambia.
Depends what you enjoy really, Egypt has great culture, great snorkeling/diving and if you want it the usual tourist stuff, on the downside there's a lot of security check points if you want to go anywhere.
I've only ever been to Lanzarote in the Canaries, nice climate, nice beaches but the towns were very busy, never been in January though.
Gambia has nice all inclusive hotels, the food is ok, the people are nice but when you venture out its all very different.
thought that you were going to say fishing St3ve3.
I have no idea meaty.... I hear that B'ham is nice this time of year rolleyes
My suggestion.
Look into one of these community service holiday where u go and dig wells in Botswana or summat. Get yerself off the beaten track do summat different, live like a local and feel bloody proud of yerself.

If it's just suggestions then I would suggest the warmest areas as being Egypt, Canaries, Goa (in India) you will need a visa and you do just have time to do the optional jabs. Flight to Goa around 9-10 hours. Also a bit further afield I would suggest various Caribbean destinations if you are willing to do the 8-10 hour flight but not sure if your budget will cover that over New Year as they tend to put the prices up at that time.
Areas nearer to home but not quite as warm as the others would include Cyprus, Malta, Madeira (Nice weather but hardly any beach...great bird watching though and good for nature enthusiasts).

Happy with a long haul and maybe even more interested in something like that. I've had a nose round and have found that if we're willing to fly on new years day morning there is a major size saving to be had, i don't drink much so i'm happy to do that (roads will be nice and quiet too) biggrin
Don't fancy digging holes in Botswana though, i do enough manual labour at home with my ongoing DIY- i kind of want a rest but an active rest if you know what i mean. not sure if the two girlies who are coming would be happy in a muddy pit either (we've acquired another traveller overnight apparently  )
so, i think some sun, some sightseeing and maybe something adventurous (for a day or two) like watersports of the non pervy variety would make a fine trip away
What d'ya think this is...the bluddy travel desk rolleyes :notes: come on here for a quiet perve :giggle:
Goa and Kerala are both stunning, I've been several times. Guaranteed sunshine 12 hours a day, lovely people, plenty to do etc.
Jabs atre a bit of a pain though.
You could try Morocco or Tunisia for cheapish winter sunshine
