........can we all shut up and let this human being die in peace. She will be dead soon you know and her children will have no mother.

And this thread will drop quickly off the page, as she is long forgotten....

OK Minx I will elaborate.
I cant get upset about jade, Prince Charles first wife or the 9/11 people because their death and suffering has happened or is inevitible and is a tiny tiny proportion of what happens every day since.
I can get upset about millions of people dying or suffering every day from malnutrition and the lack of clean water, partly because that happens every day and partly because its a relatively simple thing to stop happening. Much easier than finding a cure for cancer, or catching terrorists and a darn sight less expensive.

I think Ben, now is the time to take a coffee break, you need to be very very careful in what you are saying. coffee
People have relatives fighting wars that have started following 9/11......enough said?

The best bit of advice I have heard in a while Mar.
I am speechless as to how anybody could make such a statement. mad :x :x
Nar I still believe 9/11 is nonsensical.
Would anybody who is offended please consider the following facts.
All but a couple of the terrorists responsible for the 9/11 outrage were Saudi Arabians not Iraqis or Afghanis.
It took, what was it, 6 months for the war on terror to kill more people than the 9/11 atrocity.
So that incident killed 20,000 people in 6 months, meanwhile, according to the World Health Organisation 9 million people died from preventable poverty.
Kent as usual your desire to see opinions expressed relates solely to those who agree with you.
Mar Ive never seen you in favour of censorship on here before.
OK, that's it!
Who's first

It is not about that, as well you know.
That comment was well over the mark. I could really say something here, but as I enjoy my membership here, I will take a rain check. redface
To quote your post Kent
"That comment was well over the mark."
What mark? Its certainly within the AUP and far from being bigotted and ill informed, as many posts on these forums tend to be (Ben Passim), is an opinion based on fact.

when it comes to opinions i reckon either remove the "for" or remove the "have".
Then at least that will be one statement that makes some sense.
Silk you little tinker how long have u been nursing that.

Just noticed it to be honest, Im not generally a grammar pedant as you can tell by my writing, but bad grammar combined with poison sometimes makes me bite.
Anyway ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it wasn't meant for you lol

Do you not think we should have this kind of media coverage of folk dying from malnutrition instead.

So the whole Comic Relief, Live Aid, Band Aid etc advertising has passed you by then?
Is as poverty is so easily preventable why hasn't someone prevented it? Oh yes, because there are a whole subset of problems that affect it not just weather/living conditions. Politics, culture, tradition etc cannot be so easily solved by throwing money into the pot! Take AIDS education in Africa, the education is there, the money for education is there, unfortunately culture and tradition take many many years to overcome! In which time millions of people are infected and thrown into the poverty trap after being excluded from their communities.
Overthrowing dictatorships isn't just a case of sending in the army and deposing the government, if the people in that country will elect the next dictator down the list into power!

Real tragedy in my view involves suffering and death that is preventable.

Bit like Jade Goody then? Her plight, whilst being turned media circus, will save countless of lives, women will remember this for many years to come. They will recognise the need for regular cervical testing, they will act when the results come back as suspicious. They will vaccinate their daughters.
Jade Goody's actions in ignoring the warning signs has cost her her life, no doubt about it! Whilst women die from cervical cancer every year, it is one of the most easily detected, easily treated and easily prevented and yet many women don't understand that!
Preventing these deaths will be a big step towards preventing tragedy for many women and their families.
And despite what you think, death from cancer is not inevitable! Prevention and early detection are much better now than 10 years ago, and in 10 years time will be better still. You do a tremendous disservice to those who have battled cancer, both as a sufferer and possibly as a member of their family. Cancer doesn't just affect the sufferer, it affects the family and friends!
You do a tremendous disservice to anyone battling cancer by saying death is inevitable.
Fair points Calista duly noted.
I wasn't offering solutions to world poverty simply illustrating the fact that I don't feel any more sorry for Jade than those dying of poverty. The whole "why do we fail to tackle the problem properly" needs a whole thread of its own. Theres another whole thread waiting to be posted on quite why we run tin rattling campaigns aimed at the poor for the benefit of the even poorer.
Yes the "Jade Goody" cervical smear effect is positive and I for one am chuffed about that. A friend of mine was diagnosed with cervical cancer only last year purely by chance and has been treated and has survived.
When I referred to Jades death as inevitable I was simply quoting the opinions of her doctors as quoted in the media.

Ben all life is inevitible,
I understand to a point where you are coming from, but people are trying to help people suffering in mass, it is the regimes in some of those countries that don't help the plight of people trying to help.
But still to state your other points 9/11. or mother thersea or any single person as a comparison to death I still can not understand.
If it be hordes or one, everyone in the horde is just one. Anyone person that dies is still sad if they have never inflicted pain or suffering upon others.
Fair point Minx I respect your views although as you know we often choose to differ.

Oh? and you know me um how well??
And you've trawled through 5445 of my posts then have you??
How cool are you then!
Nar I just had a germ of an idea at the back of my mind that you were not in favour of censorship.

I also know that it's not appropriate to make jokes about people who are dying never mind talk about them as though they are already dead. rolleyes
There's a time and a place.

DG, I'm not sure anyone should be immune from humour. Humour is often how we make sense of the world, and come to terms with the darker, scarier bits of what it means to be human. I wouldn't post anything from Sickipedia on her MySpace page, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure I agree at all with your suggestion that she is somehow now beyond parody. Would it be any more or less approriate to wait until she's dead? Not sure. I say that as someone who watched his 36 year old father die from cancer at the tender age of 9, not that that's in any way relevant to this particular discussion. I did chuckle at both Ben's and Mr_Powers' one liners. Not sure what that says about me, if anything? confused
Neil x x x ;)
thank you...i'd thought everyone had thought i'd made a serious remark about her and jack.
Well, has to be the final say on the Goody affair surely..
Unless, of course, you know different...

eh? what's Ms Trimble got to do with Jade Goody?? am I missing something? lol
I suppose Trimble is also seeking to eek out her 10 minutes of fame.
First thing I thought when I heard her on the Radio was "I wonder if shes signed up to Max Clifford yet"

If you read the whole article, it will be revealed
Basically, the article says that people are rubbishing Ms Trimble who clearly has a talent and making Ms Goody out to be some sort of goddess which she is clearly not

Max Clifford don't do talent.. it's not the "British" thing to promote someone who is naturally able.. Clifford is only interested in freaks and Goody fits the bill perfick like :haha:
Aye its good to see the system works:
Gail came to Oxford from the Lady Eleanor Holles School (an independent day school in London), where she sat A levels in Latin, Greek, Maths and English Literature:
Like I always say £1300 quid solely to register for a place then £3300 a term is never wasted on the gifted and talented.
Im so jealous I reckon I coulda scraped a Desmond if id had the right start in life.
I just love women with talent :rascal:
I knew a lady at Poly who could pick up two pint jugs using her breasts.
Universetitty Challenge wouldnt allow her on.
Where are you now Anne.
