at the risk of getting this post deleted too i thought id enter it anyway. (not intending to cause an argument)
ive been using this site for over a year now. Ive always participated in discusions and contributed to peoples thoughts and points of views.
I thought this was an all topic "general" discusion forum. so i have to say i was a little suprised to see that a post was deleted for being "crap".. when infact i thought if anyone had been watching what it was i was commenting on at the time it could have proved to be a very funny topic indeed. But due to the fact that the subject i was speaking about was on the TV at that moment i thought id mention it asap.
So although it may have been a "crap post" i thought it weren't a totally pointless one.
To be honest i thought it a little disrespectful to just delete this straight away.
the discusion of freedom of speech has come up once or twice on this site and ive always been of the opinion that provided its not offensive or blatantly Rude then live and let live.
Or at least it would have been nice to have given it at least 5 mins to see how the post went down with others. Without just branding it crap coz thats the deleting persons opinion.

Dawn.. I had stated that there was a really annoying woman on BBC3 in a Green Dress... not a "horrible green dress" . i just simply mentioned the green dress because she was amoungst 18 other women. It was just a description in order for identification purposes.
Plus . if you'd have seen her you prob would have been pissing yoursef too. Hence why i mentioned it. It was funny.. really.
Some are locked because they've been gone over again and again, unfortunately newbies don't tend to know this and don't use the search button. I would suggest that the more common ones are put up as stickies so they're not constantly locked whenever a new member starts the same discussion

Common to most other boards I use where any message not actually offensive can be put, then people can still do as they wish, reply, whatever but it also acts as list of things that are not part of the main discussions going on...

:?Well thanks for that sarge. Im sure its not the only "literary masterpiece" round here.(just because i spelt "discussion"wrong a couple of times.. okay a few times).
Anyway.. the method behind my madness was that i thought some people as craaaazzzy as it may seem may just happen to have the television on at the same time as they were on here.
I've been on a few forums that dealt with this by having a special section for threads that were less, erm shall we say, enlightening, or had been done to death.
So along with 'the cafe', 'let's meet up', and 'dogging' there would be 'the other place', where junk threads go to die. All the things newbies regularly bring up but the old-times are fed up with could be stickied there (should I shave, does size matter etc.) , where they wouldn't annoy the regulars. Mods would simply move most of the junk threads threads there rather than lock them (unless of course they were really offensive).

The problem here is that if someone wants to talk about something that has been discussed before, they can do one of two things:
1. Start a thread and be subjected to the dismissive and disrespectful "The search button is your friend" mantra.
2. Bump an old thread and get the other broken record, "This has been done to death."
Either way, the message is, thou shalt search the entire history of the forum before posting anything, and if it's been talked about before, thou shalt shut up.
This guarantees that mountains of total shit will be posted, because all the interesting topics have been 'covered' before. Some of that shit, like "Who's your favourite comedian?" will be welcomed, some of it, e.g. "I'm watching so-and-so on telly, isn't that interesting" will be binned, and some of it, word association for example, will be tolerated until someone decides that it too has been "done to death", and nobody can tell in advance which shit will be allowed and which shit will be shot down in smug sanctimonious flames. The upshot is, long-standing members get pissed off and leave, and newbies get slaughtered on day one and don't bother again.
Maybe there is some deep psychological need for a couple of the people with the extra buttons to have the last word, so what we end up with is their sarcastic, arrogant bullying cluttering up the board - locked of course so that the people they insult can't respond.

Just a thought to help when looking at the list of threads.
How about asking people to to try not to be misleading in the title? For example, I like football, so if the header has "football" in it, I am likely to read it. Those that dont like football can ignore it.
Likewise I can ignore "How about a hob knob etc" because it is unlikely to interest me.
