I just wanted to air my thoughts
My thoughts entirely!
I was introduced to the forums by another member. He thought it would be a place I would find interesting. I haven’t been here very long and he was right, I find this place at times fascinating, funny, witty, enjoyable, moving, temperamental, annoying frustrating, but I keep coming back because for these reasons.
I like being part of this community.
I feel everyone has the right to freedom of speech, correct me if I am wrong but isn’t that one thing that’s great about this country, that we are still able to have these kinds of debates.
I would like to see all types of threads in this forum, then it will attract all types of people. I see threads that I read and think I don’t wish to add anything, so I just move onto another. I see others where I strongly disagree so I will counter with a my side of the debate. I could never insult people, to hurl an insult to me is showing a level of immaturity that can be likened to a school playground
Take 777's thread lock em up for example. I think we would all agree the actions of these children were appalling. We can all debate how this came to be and all have our own opinion how this country has got to the place it has now. It is when we are trying to come to a resolution is where we all differ. We all have different opinions but politics shouldn’t be brought into the debate, I believe a debate should be your personal view.

I do not want anyone just agreeing with me!
I want to hear your thoughts, if you don’t have thoughts about this thread, just move on and find one you do have thoughts about.
It is a lovely day outside with that nip in the air I am here alive so are you. Lets celebrate that!

He knows what he is doing, I would say being here isn't like the Chat rooms it is a different medium. we cant in here take sides we just need to me ourselves, the idividal people we are, we can disagree with people we see as friends, true friends hold no grudges.

I too am ‘very’ new to the forum…..
I really do love it here tho…… sometimes I like to post and woffle on… other times I just like to read and take it all in….
Oh there have been some really funny posts that have had me rolling on the floor laughing… and some sad ones that have made me cry…..
Personally I feel/felt that being accepted as part of this community is/was difficult for newcomers/me…..but like many have said before, you only get out what you put in!….
I have often said I would love to scoop you all up and stick us all in a pub together…….. Oh we are doing that soon!!! Lol…..

Whilst i know where 777 stands politically i didnt feel the need to hold that against him in my reply. What put me off was those posters in THAT thread - we both know which one, leapt in attacking his views with very very little mention of the actual story of the thread. And if thats wot the forum has to offer i'm not sure i am going to continue. I do believe that this should be a place that we can share opionions and discuss the real world if we want to, some ppl just dont seem to respect that right. As for not taking anything personally as mentioned in another of your posts in this thread - i'm not sure that if someone attacked me in the same way that 777 was i would just be able to walk away. Yes he may deliberately start something contraversial and yes he may well be expecting flack for it - but thats not wot i'm here for.

I just dare not do a new one today, as God knows what things I will face later in the day. It seems we have freedom of speech in this country, just not in the SH forums. :shock:
I get a bit tired with people digging me out and funnily enough the same people normally too. We all have a choice up4 as to whether we want to read a post or not. You know whats funny? People who had a go yesterday were quoting things from page two. :lol: So even though they hated the thread itself, were still bothered to read all the replies, even down to the end of the thread. Strange that. :shock:

When I first joined this site I didn't use the forums. I read them but didn't post. Then gradually, as well as using the site to arrange meets etc which, after all, was the reason I had joined, I realised there was another 'side' to the site. I started going to organised socials and munches and posting on the forums.
As in real life, there are people I have met socially from the site who I get on famously with. There are others who I have met who I just didn't click with, we had nothing in common apart from our membership of SH. It's like that in the forum too. There are people who I admire, like, find hilarious, fancy, appreciate their posts, support their opinions - the list could go on. Equally on the forum there are people who I don't like so much, who I don't really seem to have anything in common with. And I'm sure people have varying opinions of me too!
Am I part of a clique or a gang? I don't consider I am. Do I have friends here? Yes. Do I enjoy their banter? Yes, of course I do. Do I perhaps agree with them more often than not? Well yes, our commonality is usually what has prompted our friendship.
But fundamentally I am first and foremost an active member of a public forum. I enjoy the debate and the banter. I dislike the lack of tact and the pettyness that sometimes arises.
Has this place changed? Probably. Things do. Do I believe in free speech and people's right to express their opinion? Yes. Of course I do.
There are times when it feels a bit tense in here. There are times when it has me laughing out loud.
But let's not assume that old and new cannot get along just fine. Let's try not to propagate the myth of cliques and gangs. Inevitably, there are groups of people with common ground who get on both here and in 'real' life.
I'm afraid I've waffled. I've just been reading lots of threads and I think, in a way, I am summing up how I generally feel in a pretty waffly, all-encompassing way.
Up_for_fun, it's sad that your recent posting experience has left you feeling negative. Stick with the place. It waxes and wanes like these things are prone to doing but it is, ultimately, what we all make it.
Old members and new members alike have all got loads to contribute. I'm sad that certain members have left or don't post so much anymore but I am also really enjoying some of the banter from newer folk too...

I'm afraid I've waffled. I've just been reading lots of threads and I think, in a way, I am summing up how I generally feel in a pretty waffly, all-encompassing way.
Up_for_fun, it's sad that your recent posting experience has left you feeling negative. Stick with the place. It waxes and wanes like these things are prone to doing but it is, ultimately, what we all make it.
Old members and new members alike have all got loads to contribute. I'm sad that certain members have left or don't post so much anymore but I am also really enjoying some of the banter from newer folk too...

Up_for_fun, I'm not having a go at you personally. I am just thinking that if a similar comment had been made by another member they probably would have been called all sorts by now.
As in real life, there are people I have met socially from the site who I get on famously with. There are others who I have met who I just didn't click with, we had nothing in common apart from our membership of SH. It's like that in the forum too. There are people who I admire, like, find hilarious, fancy, appreciate their posts, support their opinions - the list could go on. Equally on the forum there are people who I don't like so much, who I don't really seem to have anything in common with. And I'm sure people have varying opinions of me too!
But fundamentally I am first and foremost an active member of a public forum. I enjoy the debate and the banter. I dislike the lack of tact and the pettyness that sometimes arises.
Has this place changed? Probably. Things do. Do I believe in free speech and people's right to express their opinion? Yes. Of course I do.
There are times when it feels a bit tense in here. There are times when it has me laughing out loud.
But let's not assume that old and new cannot get along just fine. Let's try not to propagate the myth of cliques and gangs. Inevitably, there are groups of people with common ground who get on both here and in 'real' life.
I didnt think that my comment did come across that way. And whilst i've read several threads today only one has interested me enuf to post a reply back to - but i havent felt so incensed by anthing that i've felt the need to harrass anyone in the manner that i saw yesterday. And my comments about "old gang" were in reference to someone posting something along those lines today and who i had felt were offensive to someone yesterday.
I totally agree with you about how this forum should be - just a shame that yesterday, my first real experience if you like of posting on here turned into a nasty one sided slanging match.
My comments to 777 were done in jest and i'm sure they were taken that way, what i read yesterday was done to insult - there is a huge huge difference. And the thread that i read this morning came across as a whinge about how good the old gang were and how bad things on here are now thanks to newbies - well ta very much i say, the line has already been drawn in the sand it seems and not by me.

And i guess at the end of the day i'm just trying to say - i dont really care if there aregangs/cliques in here - i just expected for everyone to have a fair hearing and not be attacked for their views on anything. So it came as a shock yesterday to find out that some members feel it necessary to behave the way they did.
