When you pay for something at the bar or shop do you tip? i was just thinking about this and "tipping" like in the pub "take your own to the bar maid" is 20-50p? but what if theres only a penny or two left say something is £??.98 or 99 do you wait for the penny or two? It's my thinking that a penny -you keep it is rather insulting? so do you wait for the penny change?
jw
I wait for my change, regardless of what it is...been in enough shops when they don't let you off when your a penny short...
I run a shop and if someone says 'keep the penny' it goes in a charity box. I'd say about 50% of people waited for the penny in good times, but lately that percentage has increased.
It's not insulting, when you get paid your employer works it out to the penny and your change from the shop is exact to the penny.
i wait for mine and empty out all the 1,2,5 & 10p coins from my wallet every few days, into a jar.
This is usually cashed in once a year for holiday money and has come in at £20-30 most times- so it is worth keeping your change cos every penny counts wink
Damn right we do!!!!!
Its a battle of wills sometimes to see if you will be offered your change. When its given freely, no prob.
But we hate having to ask for it because the other person 'thinks' its OK to keep it. Same as with a pen when you give your pen to someone to use. It may be forgetful on their part to return it but what do you write with after??????
I always wait for my change too! Some shop keepers can be a bit slow in giving you that 1 penny, but i just wait ..lol.
If it's just 1p or 2p I tell them to put it in the charity box. Like Meaty, all my change under 10p goes into a jar and now and then I take it to the supermarket where they have those coin machines and put it towards my shopping. I hate my purse being crammed with small change confused
Saving my loose change up is something I really need to do. I must get a big jar of some sort and start saving.

Snap
I put it in the charity box and if there isn't one then I keep it and empty my purse every couple of days of loose change into the kids money boxes. Rather they benefit than the shopkeeper.

Do you know how many times I've told people not to worry about the 1 or 2p they're short by, yet I put the pennies people tell me to keep in a charity box? No wonder I make hardly any profit.
I always wait for my change, then all the coppers go into the kids money boxes ready to hit the 2p machines on holidays lol.
I was 9p short yesterday in Aldi's and the lady let me off because I didn't have it and I didn't have my bank card .
I started to think about what I do, and then I realised that I hardly ever use cash nowadays. Most of what I buy goes straight on the debit card.
Its strange how its the accepted norm to tip people in cetain occupations while not others who are probably more deserving.
I don't tip anywhere or donate change to charity. Right now I'm so poor that if I donated a penny to charity I'd be getting it back the next day lol
I think everyone should keep the change. Well for as long as possible. HRT can help as part of this regime biggrin
