When you pay for something at the bar or shop do you tip? i was just thinking about this and "tipping" like in the pub "take your own to the bar maid" is 20-50p? but what if theres only a penny or two left say something is £??.98 or 99 do you wait for the penny or two? It's my thinking that a penny -you keep it is rather insulting? so do you wait for the penny change?
jw
I wait for my change, regardless of what it is...been in enough shops when they don't let you off when your a penny short...
I run a shop and if someone says 'keep the penny' it goes in a charity box. I'd say about 50% of people waited for the penny in good times, but lately that percentage has increased.
Damn right we do!!!!!
Its a battle of wills sometimes to see if you will be offered your change. When its given freely, no prob.
But we hate having to ask for it because the other person 'thinks' its OK to keep it. Same as with a pen when you give your pen to someone to use. It may be forgetful on their part to return it but what do you write with after??????
I always wait for my change too! Some shop keepers can be a bit slow in giving you that 1 penny, but i just wait ..lol.
Saving my loose change up is something I really need to do. I must get a big jar of some sort and start saving.
I put it in the charity box and if there isn't one then I keep it and empty my purse every couple of days of loose change into the kids money boxes. Rather they benefit than the shopkeeper.
I started to think about what I do, and then I realised that I hardly ever use cash nowadays. Most of what I buy goes straight on the debit card.
Its strange how its the accepted norm to tip people in cetain occupations while not others who are probably more deserving.
