Took it upon ourselves to take the 'unholy trinity' for a drive to and around London centre this Sunday afternoon. The first time i've driven round it in, let's say a few years innocent
Forgive me other peoples of Britain. Wherever i've been in these fair isles. Nothing really compares with the old place!
I've been oo Newcastle and Glasgow. Liverpool and York. Edingburgh and Bristol Leeds and Manchester, etc etc. All individually marvellous places i grant you. (Although c'mon Swindon!!! loon )
London is fantastic! Head and shoulders above anywhere else - The Jewel in this most special land of ours.

Has to be said i went to London few times with the Army ( to watch army v navy in rugby ) and thought it was get for a piss up and shopping but... and yes there is always a but with me ( prob coz its so big lol ) i could never ever drive there ever again i went there to pick up a car i had bought and it almost put me off driving but i would defo go back there on the train or if some else is driving.
I have to agree, although driving is a nightmare in this fair old city.
Its little wonder its the capital of our isles.
It have everything and more anyone could ask for.
Mind u driving for 90 min too cover20 miles is not something I enjoy but hey now and again its ok.
Now a fully paid up member of the tube which is great coming from someone who hates tunnels lol
I took my duaghter there last week for the day. Did the London bus tour and ate in China town before heading to Harrods and we had a brilliant day.
I used to work in London a lot and never really enjoyed it but going for a visit to see my friends there or a day trip is very different.
Coming to London for a visit is wonderful. It is really a very grand, majestic city where a million things are always going on... you could never get bored in London.
However living in London is another thing everything is just so expensive, we're taxed up to our ears, the bleeming congestion tax doesn't work (or rather it works as far as filling Red Ken's coffers) and now we're being taxed for the London Olympics too - god do I sound like a whinger!
But don't let me put you off... London is a great place to come for a day out, nothing beats it - specially when it comes to do a cultural tour.
I love London
Something to do with it being located so far down south and away from me lol

I used to loathe London in my yoof....... grew to love it over time. The attractions Ive done and dont want to revisit..... so for me now, its browsing round the back streets taking in the local culture in out of the way places or just passing through!
Walking along the canal is great.. brill shopping for particular items in Camdon, maybe Soho..if I need a pick me up! lol Visit my fav S & M shop by Spitfields Market... worth the journey for a great sausage an mash!

I moved to London in 1980, coming from a variety of hick towns in the south east. It took a few attempts to break into it as well. Returning home to my parents feeling devastated. But I wanted it and persisted. Eventually I found a way. There were many lonely and desperate times.
But eventually things prevailed and I now feel at home here. I would not want to go back to places which haven't changed in 30 years.
London is a filthy mess at times, and to make it work you have to stay on the ride, which at times can be hectic and rough. But there is an expectation of you to hang in there whatever.
I think the main reasons why people don't make it here is down to health. They just don't thrive in the soup of filth. The air and water etc. Basic things that just don't work for them. Otherwise they'd be fine and have a laugh.
When you have time to take in all the sites and things it's magical. But some days can feel like hell.
Even so it's an endless experience and I generally love it.

I adore London ...maybe because I don't live in it I am not sure.
I love the cosmopolitan kalaidescope that inhabits banter at the bar whilst you figure out which country the bar person who serves you is from.
The tube is just so sexy and a huge people watching experience, it provides real value for money(sadly unlike the rest of the city) and it is so awesomely easy to follow> I just love that underground map.
The musical theatre, the buzz of the crowd after, humming with superlatives after being entertained by awesome live raw talent.
The history that is our England framed and epitomised in the architecture.
All the time knowing that as an outsider I am barely scratching the surface and realising that there is so much more to see and experience if only I knew when , where to go
biggrin :D :D
