I took my duaghter there last week for the day. Did the London bus tour and ate in China town before heading to Harrods and we had a brilliant day.
I used to work in London a lot and never really enjoyed it but going for a visit to see my friends there or a day trip is very different.
Coming to London for a visit is wonderful. It is really a very grand, majestic city where a million things are always going on... you could never get bored in London.
However living in London is another thing everything is just so expensive, we're taxed up to our ears, the bleeming congestion tax doesn't work (or rather it works as far as filling Red Ken's coffers) and now we're being taxed for the London Olympics too - god do I sound like a whinger!
But don't let me put you off... London is a great place to come for a day out, nothing beats it - specially when it comes to do a cultural tour.
I (mrs north) has never been but hope to go one day
hint hint mr north lol
I've only been to London once, and it scared me :eeek:
I moved to London in 1980, coming from a variety of hick towns in the south east. It took a few attempts to break into it as well. Returning home to my parents feeling devastated. But I wanted it and persisted. Eventually I found a way. There were many lonely and desperate times.
But eventually things prevailed and I now feel at home here. I would not want to go back to places which haven't changed in 30 years.
London is a filthy mess at times, and to make it work you have to stay on the ride, which at times can be hectic and rough. But there is an expectation of you to hang in there whatever.
I think the main reasons why people don't make it here is down to health. They just don't thrive in the soup of filth. The air and water etc. Basic things that just don't work for them. Otherwise they'd be fine and have a laugh.
When you have time to take in all the sites and things it's magical. But some days can feel like hell.
Even so it's an endless experience and I generally love it.
