Yeahhhhhhhhhh smackbottom to the frogs
great news!!!
lets just hope we can fill the seats - would hate a uk olympics to look as empty as athens did!
flipa :flipa: :flipa: This is for Jacques Chirac and all his fellow cuntrymen :evil2:
Tracy-Jayne
I just hope their is a plan in place for the venues after the games.
Great stuff.....I wonder if the Finland vote had anything to do with it..?Jacques Chirac is Frances answer to our Prince Philip when putting your foot in it!!
Come on London!!!!!! lol
I am chuffed in one way because it is great to beat the frogs and will be great for the country, but.....
I wish I had bought a house in Stratford now!!! They are going to sky rocket over the next few years.
Anybody fancy going halves on a buy to let? The cheapest 1 bed flat is going for about £125k..... wink
Does talk of 'frogs' not violate the AUP?
ever the cynic, just wish they put as much effort behind the birmingham & manchester bids (there up north-beyond the M25, for those of you in london)
*ducks in anticipation of the hail of bullets*
They may of won it,but I think you will find most people don't want Tonight did a poll and 70% of those who voted didn't want to the fact we are hopeless when it comes to the Olympics apart from the odd gold medal here and there.

Well, I thought about that, but since this forum is pour Les Rosbif only, I figured we'd let it go lol
I just thought that if you substitute 'frogs' for 'Pakis' or something like that, it's suddenly not so funny.
Anyway, I'd have preferred Paris to get it. I know where my Metrolink extension money is going to go to now.

I think this is one of the key statements so far. It's alright going to the expense of building these facilities, but if they are going to lie idle afterwards, then the whole thing is pointless. At least in Manchester the facilities are still being used (the velodrome was already there, the new stadium is now some football clubs home ground).
It will be interesting to see how it all goes, but expect a lot of fuck ups, buck passing and white elephants. And yes, you dirty minded buggers, you can interpret that statement in anyway that turns you on. biggrin
i dont want to put a dampner on the whole we won we got the games, but its the folks in london that are going to have to pay for this in their taxes. now australia is the only country ever to make a profit from the games and us brits have a habbit of building things and saying it will cost x amount of pounds when in reality it costs more like xxxxx amount. hope it will be worth it.
x rache x
well i dunno if you remember, but we all paid for the millenium dome, only to have it lay idle for god know`s how long, and obviously we are gonna be paying for the olympics ,so hopefully the goverment wont fuck it up,as it usually 2 fingers to france ,hopefully we wont be paying for another white elephant, but that remains to be seen.

Think this is great news for the homeless in London not mad
hi all
we are all smiling now, and are happy that London is the host city for 2012....but, during the next seven years taxes will be raised to pay for the event..i am happy for London, it will create lots of jobs in the stratford area....but then again i am cynical, and believe that no one else will benefit from this major world event, apart from London itself. although i cant see the stadium becoming a huge white rabbitt that the dome became, a possible solution would be that the milton keyne dons could move back to London, and become great again with Vinny Jones as a newly Appointed manager. going off on one there alittle sorry.......But well Dome..Done London...christ i've just realised i'll be 40....in 2012
sophiebifem
yes and the construction industry ,,will absolutely reap the rewards
we will get pay increases ,,more overtime,,bonusus
and be able to watch parts of the proceedings from incomplete stadia
Hopefully it will kickstart an interest in sports in this country, and that the new venues created for this will be put to good use.
More interest in sport = a fitter population
A fitter population = less heart attacks and less drain on the NHS
So maybe in the long run the olympics (and other sporting events) will save the country money... or at least stir up a bit of pride that our capital city beat the likes of New York, Paris etc
well done london
we now have the games here
its about time the goverment started putting monet towards schools of excellence for talented young sports people just like the aussies do it would be very embarrasing to be hosting the games and not performing
colin
I have just spoken to my mum, sister and a lot of my old friends who live 2 miles away from stratford and they are are absolutly chuffed to bits..... i had to have a little cry myself, because i know what it will mean and do to that part of the city
here is to a good old proper east end knees up in 2012...... smile :) :) :)

The government already do just that!! Many secondary schools are specialist sport colleges with extra funding for G&T pupils, strong curriculum sport provision and massive after school programmes etc. I could bore you for half an hour about the money being poured into school sport iniatitives right now: for instance £5M just announced for swimming at KS2, another large amount for PESSCL programmes (PE and School Sport Club Links) and on and on and on!
The development of LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) in 7 focus sports funded by Sport England (and home nations) is going a long way to change the way we teach and train children for the world stage.
Sport coach licensing is addressing child protection and quality of coach issues.
UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) is addressing concerns regarding coach education for all sports.
I could go on and on and on... the Olympic Games will go a HUGE way to boost moral and motivation for our aspiring athletes in all sports. The focus is on medals and it has to start from child aged 5.
redface surprisedops:

Just to pick up this point. Our eldest son (year 8 at the moment, aged 13) is having massive efforts put in with his schooling. He is even starting his GCSE's next year, a year ealier than most other schools and this comes with loads of extra support. Plus he has the pleasure of his school just being given Sports College Status and the work is beginning any time now with a massive increase of facilities biggrin
