Oooooh not nice and I don't envy you.
I have been the sole customer in my local pub tonight rather than driving the 7 or so miles I should have to meet a friend. Not gonna chance smashing the car up/being stuck cos of the snow sad
Lets hope it clears by the weekend
have to admit that on the 60 mle each way journey made tonight, I did see plenty of twats
I drive a lot, like most people who drive excessive mileage I slow down when the weather/visability/roads gets bad.
Why I ask myself do I see twats going by me at 90 when the road is slick with snow, visability dropping all the time and me crawling along at 40.
Always said, I AM A CAREFUL DRIVER, BUT ITS THE OTHER TWATS THAT WILL KILL ME
oops caps, but still true
Guess we must be lucky to be alive every day. rolleyes

My driving instructor used to tell me that it wasn't my driving I had to worry about but everyone else's.
It's the idiots on the road that take stupid risks that seem to cause the accidents but manage to walk away with no more than a couple of scratches.
I'm a very nervous passenger and I really hate motorways too. It scares the life out of me when traffic goes tearing past at hyper-speed or some wanker is driving right up your backside.
Even in this awful weather we're having, local traffic on my street will go tearing around without a care, even though we have kids that play out and cars parked on corners, etc.
Some people need to be reminded that they're not just in control of a mode of transport but a lethal weapon. Half the people on the roads - especially these boy racer types and semi-blind pensioners that haven't a blummin clue - you wouldn't give them a gun but we let them drive cars. I dunno ... rolleyes
Now that's my rant over!
Glad you are ok. Don't know what to say as I am new but I am thinking of you
I was also on the A66 last night- Penrith to Scotch corner from - ish.
Youre right there were no traffic warniings so I assumed it would be OK. As you have said, it wasnt!
A lot of problems can be avoided by supplying a little bit of information.
The simple facts are that
1. Many people do not have a clue how to drive in any weather, let alone snow.... No manners, barging in, pulling up so close behind they nearly hit you....
I get sick of those who get off M62 at Chain Bar, then when the queue's moved on, the same tossers are trying to barge in up the sliproad having tried to take a shortcut round the roundabout. Which is why I never let the fuckers in, they can wait their turn like the rest of us.
2. Cars are far too powerful these days, tyres too wide, and therefore too much power is transmitted to the road when it isn't needed. Best cars I have ever seen in snow were Morris Minor, Citroen 2cv and of course the Land Rover.... Still think the same 20 years on....
But trying to get the revcounter into the red zone in 1st. gear is not big, and is not clever...
One idiot tried that last year by my garden wall. Result ? - Wall 1 : 0 car
