What would gay/lesbian/tv/ts etc people say if they got turned away from a nightclub cause they didnt look str8 enuff confused: :?:

The sad thing is - they do! A local str8 nightclub runs a gay night once a month but if a guy takes his shirt off on the dance floor - of if anyone comes in looking "too gay" they turn them away. This is on their "gay night"..
We have one gay night club in town that is frequented a lot by str8 people - and it can get a bit frustrating when you spend all night plucking up the courage to chat someone up and they turn out to be str8. It is also frustrating to see str8's kissing on the dance floor - knowing exactly what the reaction would be if we were to do that in astr8 night club. I don't want to be biased and prejudiced - and I hope this doesn't come over like that.
I've never had a problem, but as people think I'm a tranny anyway, that's OK cool
I do think there is a certain amount of hostility in some gay clubs, I'm not just talking about the Village, I'm talking more about the gay clubs in Blackpool who's atmosphere's have been near enough ruined by straight tourists coming to have a ganders and a laugh at the "freak show". I don't go to Blackpool clubs any more cos of the straights laughing at the people who really should be there mad
The Village may be different but I'm sure it does get its fair share of tourists. confused
As a license holder i was looking for a pub / club to own
One of the ones offered to me by Fleurets was in the village
I ummed and arred over this as i was very tempted by the property, its potential and its clientbase. however in the end i chose not to persue it as i was worried that a gay / bi / lesbian clientele might be against a straight owner. a shame really as what makes a good bar owner should have fuck all to do with the owners sexual persuasion. it is to do with the customer experience, however at the end of the day it is a business, and if gay / bi / lesbian peeps boycotted me, my savings and dreams would be gone!!
I know the winebar would have been safe and fun but it was too much of a gamble
How do the gay / lesbian / bi members of the board feel? would you frequent a gay bar run by a straight man or would you boycott it as a straight man cashing in on the pink pound?
Personally i had a great night in Birminghams gay quarter with my lovely partner looking for a lesbian / bi lady to join us but i guess some people aren't as tolerant as me. By the way we didn't suceed but we did have a nice night with lovely company

Would have absolutely no problem frequenting an establishment run by a st8 person as long as they respected the gay/;esbian/bi clientele. I have been part of a boycott against a str8 run gay pub - but that was becuase the bloke who ran it was a dickhead - not becuase he was str8.
i have to say that though i dont frequent the villiage that often.. the times i have been i have never felt uncomfortable.
i am now wondering if it is because i dont look feminine! lol
it does upset me a bit , the idea that i would be unwelcome somewhere.. purely because i like men as well as women, however i guess we need to take into account the fact that... though we are open minded.... a lot of people are not.. and so the gay and lesbian comunity have had a lot of predudice thrown at them.... and so this is probably some kind of defence mechanism.

Same here. Weve had several fantastic nights around there. To be honest though If I was gay I would feel uncomfortable with so called " tourists" and its difficult to distinguish between tourists and those who GENUINELY love the atmosphere and feel.
We just hope that the hospitality we have felt continues as for us its either Nightingales or no club at all.

Might just have to meet you at gales sometime then cool
I must say on visiting the village recently for little Gems birthday party,
I never felt uncomfortable once. I guess having an open attitude generally helps. I certainly would go back..If ever invited wink Glad to say I met some lovely people that night,They welcomed us into their company ,and help us enjoy every minute of being in the village...

Rainbows we love the place. No better way to burn off an all you can eat , WARNING!!! Dont be conned by the "all you can eat for a tenner" boast. We went back to our favourite restaurant and the con artists made us pay ANOTHER tenner!!!................................... wink
Gales has everything from retrogames (phoenix, pac man etc) to pop chart music, live music...club/dance up the top, and not forgetting of course the sedate sounds from the transvestite pianist...we spent hours chilling to that on our last visit.
Not sure when we are next going but I think we ought to let you know when we do x

just resurecting an old thread cos its relevant to us now, sorry,
but
im taking wild rose to the village next week simply because unless things have changed over the last two years since i last went to a gay club, the best music and atmosphere is to be had on a gay dancefloor. imo, so what clubs what music where to avoid and what nights are best for whatever.
any advice or tour guides would be welcome, but please note the signature ,
btw im far too grown up to go to the village to gawp at the freak show, as blue put it, lol and anyone that hasever been shopping with me would know im as gay as they come in river island, lol

If you want to go for a good night there are plenty of clubs to go to, why do you need to go to the village? You are a straight couple that doesn't swing, so why invade a place that people of the LGBT community go to relax and let off steam?
Try Jumping Jacks around the corner, it plays cheesey tunes and dancey classics. It is next door to a couple of hotels too. biggrin
perhaps things have changed so much these days that straight people without prejudice are no longer welcome at "gay " venues such a shame that , i explained why i wanted to go to a gay club above , simply because as i said the music was so much better , dance orientated and the atmosphere was better , ive been to loads in the past and been welcomed , pity that you seem to think it wont be the case now, hope if your gay and ever go to a straigt club yu are welcomed and not told to go round the corner and mixwith your own kind.
At the end of the day im going there to party what difference does my sexuality make
im all ears .
i migbht add it seemed a good place to buy Judy tv a beer / voddie thats long overdue, but hey if thats how it is up there we'll go to brum , welcomed with open arms there , im sure uit would be the same in manchester too though to be honest, maybe not we'll find out soon enough

That point has been made before in this thread already. It is not just me saying this. I am pretty broad minded and a 'live and let live' kind of person.
With the amount of clubs in Manchester targeting straight people exceeding the amount targeting people from the LGBT community, I find it quite unusual that one cannot find a club which caters for your musical taste outside of the Village.
My sexuality is irrelevant to non-swingers.
little gem im sorry ok lets clear the air water under the bridge and all that
im still going to the village next week though BUT i will be there during the daytime so i will not be invading the village i will just be having a drink and something to eat and a look round thats all then come 5:00 i will be gone back to burnley :bounce: :taz:
Sir Matthew, I shall PM you,
Watch your backside though as Judy is in the Village on the prowl next week!
wink
