Here's a little maths trick which I was sent which is rather clever...It does require a calculator though...
1. Key in the first three digits of your home phone number (NOT the area code)
2 Multiply that number by 8
3. Add 1 to the total
4. Multiply the total by 250
5. Add to the total the last 3 digits of your phone number
6. Add the last 3 digits of your phone number to the total again.
7. Subtract 250 from the total
8. Finally Divide number by 2
Do you recognize the answer?
Just don't post the "answers" on here or you may end up with more than you bargained for... ;-)
Only works on 6 digit phone numbers not on 7 digit numbers such as Birmingham/Manchester or 8 digits (London). :small-print:
Oh how sad, I actually tested it in Excel
sad
I dont get it. I've tried it 25000..ish times and end up with something i dont recognise. confused: :?: :?: :?: :?:
OK i tried it for the 25001th time and it worked rolleyes talk about dunce Lost ffs! biggrin
 my brain hurts lol
*in edit i followed the instructions all wrong....no wonder mine didnt make sense!!*
it does not work if you have a zero as your 4th number lol as i do
I have a seven digit phone number, but still thought it was quite clever so thanks. smile

Didn't work for me.....I guessed it was cos I have a zero as the 4th number dunno
now....see how much better it works when u read ALL instructons properly AND use a calculator hehehehe!!
*note to self, do not try and attempt mental mayhs when kids want to regale you with the entire life history of the characters from one of the 'twilight' series of books!!!
eeeeeeeee look at that....
cool

Quite easily. It's basic maths, just lots of useless expansions adding steps.
Put it like this, it's doing. (where x is first 3 digits of phone number, y is last 3 digits)
x*1000+y
((x*8)*250+(y*2))/2 (this expansion multiples by 2000, so everything needs to be divided by 2 at the end obviously)
(((x*8)+1)*250+(y+y)-250)/2
yada yada. lol
Feel free to modify the constants, for example:
(((x*5)+1)*400+(y+y)-400)/2
or
(((x*16)+1)*250+(y+y+y+y)-250)/4
No matter what you do, it's just a complicated way of multiplying one number by 1000 and then adding another one onto it. lol

Thank you worship :worship: :worship:
I hate not being able to see the trick.

... but you still have to follow the instructions confused
I haven't done this yet... but will it mean I'll have all your 'phone numbers?

Fell foul of the same point. Need to read carefully in future. Nice trick though. The explaination above makes my brain cell ache but at least it understands it.
