I'm fighting a snot attack - have tried the honey and lemon hot drink at work today ( :upset: ) and have now taken to Tia Maria and Absolut - is there anything more efficacious?
cool
Sudafed, the little red ones not the dual action ones, are really good at drying you up if you have a runny nose. Problem is they dry up all mucus membranes so if you want to play you need some KY.

Dissolvable asprin, boiling water, honey, lemon juice and whiskey.

Can't take it - Pseudoephedrine plays havoc with my nerve endings, I end up twitching all night! It's in so many cold/flu remedies these days that I have to go with old fashioned stuff - hence the booze!!
Thanks though!
Personally, I find Fisherman's Friends pretty effin cacious. With large doses of single malt whisky smile.

this will cure you:
1 tablespoon honey in large whisky glass
half a slice of lemon with ten-twelve cloves stuck in it
Now 3/4 fill glass with hot water
Now add Jamiesons whisky until very very near to top
Drink
Drink some more
Keep going
Now prepare another and watch a broken leg heal!!!!
Whiskey and lemonade, warmed up together in the microwave.
As well as burning some eculaptus oil

:laughabove: Excellent
I can't drink whisky (bleurgh) but I used to substitute it with Yates's wine and make Aussie all-ins when I was suffering with the snots. A large helping of the Yates' stuff, topped up with hot water and a slice of lemon.
No idea if they helped or not but after a few of those I didn't care anyway  :lol2:
If you have any raw ginger, slice it finely, chuck it in a pan, with powdered ginger, powdered cinammon, a couple of peppercorns, and some lemon (either whole and scored, or bottled juice). Boil it in a cup or two of water for 30 minutes or more.
Seive it and pour into cup with as much cider vinegar as you can stomach (a tbsp or two) , and stir some honey in. If it's too strong, add some hot water, or if it's too vile, mix it with some other tea, herbal preferably.
Add whiskey if you want. The raw ginger acts as an antiseptic, and the powdered works like a expectorant. The cider vinegar has many magical qualities.
If it doesn't kill the cold, it will reduce the amount of time you have it.
Hot elderflower cordial is extremely medicinal when it comes to colds and flu...especially with a dash of brandy or something spirity in it.
I also find that for some reason, cheapo chinese chicken curry works realy well. If you have both, you'll sweat buckets and sleep like a log...when you wake it'll all have progressed along much faster than it would have. biggrin
chop up fresh ginger and mix that in with your honey and lemon.
really does the trick - I know, i've just had one

So I need to sweat it out????? Anyone fancy a shag??

I can do hot whisky, haven't got honey or lemonade.
Only got Highland Park - would it be a waste??

Lol this reminds me of a funny story.....
Had a stinking bad cold just before a munch and having been given the old hot toddy recipe from Leprechaun, asked my darling hubby to make me one.........No was the answer (think he'd had a bad day at work  ).
So off i trotted to make it........lemon, honey, sugar, hot water, whiskey...............had one, had another one...then a few more to make sure...... lol
Anyway, a day or two later, MrGHC go to his whisky, "flaming eck, whos been drinking my BEST EXPENSIVE, VERY HARD TO GET JACK DANIELS!".......instead of the standard stuff in the kitchen! redface
Well that will teach him to say No to me! :haha:

There is nothing more effective than Paracetamol for a cold... You can try all these other things and they may work for you, but Paracetamol is the best relief for colds.
Also a good coating of vics vapour rub.........mainly because it smells lovely!
Hope you are better soon. x
