I finished a tube of shaving cream today.
All the time I was using it, nothing, but when it came to dropping it in the bin; I remember when and where I purchased it. The village almost deserted, the deep gorge cut into the mountain. The walk across wide open meadows, no livestock to be seen. I still do not know how we found our way home. The lakeside, clear water. The old Roman temple, it's precinct swallowed by the town garden, 2000 years old, with wooden doors in place. A strange mix of old and not quite new. A nation still to find it's self.
Now as I discard the last tangible link I remember. It just seems odd, I wonder will I remember what was again, or am I doomed to forget?
Whata lovely bit of writing.

It's about surprise memory-joggers innit?
A depleted tube of shaving cream took the user back to time and a place in vivid detail... possibly a memory that may have remained dim otherwise.
A quick glance at my watch... checking again the day of the week on the mobile 'phone display... a paniced flick through the diary and I'm brought crashing back into the reality that I really should be getting my arse ready for work!!!

I tell you what , your Tesco sounds much nicer than mine.
I remember where I bought my last pack of feminine products........bugga it was nothing like that confused
I used some M&S peach soap not so long ago..... actually it was quite a while ago, couple or 3 years or so confused as soon as it started frothing up - bang, I was back on the maternity ward as a brand new mum!!
The last time I used it was when I took some into the hospital to have my youngest, and before then it was when I had my eldest (not the same bar I might add!! :? ).
Funny how a smell can affect emotions. As soon I smelt that soap I felt exactly as I did as a brand new mum, felt the excitement, the worry and the total awe
I very rarely use the soap, in fact I don't even know if they sell it any more. I was worried that if I used it, I would get too used to the smell, and would lose that memory that was attached to it - or not the memory obviously, but would lose the feeling the soap gave me.
Gonna have a look at the weekend and see if I can get some!! cool
This post has just reminded me that I need to buy new handwash for the bathroom
Thank you T
I've been looking at this thread and trying to think of a smart punchline - but I couldn't.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hello.

Yes about memory jogging. Memories, they sit there waiting for something to associate with. Then BANG there they are, uninvited. A pleasant surprise, or a crippling shock. I may go and retrieve that folded up tube and put it in the bottom of my sock draw.
If ever I smell lavender it reminds me of my Nanna  I miss her so much.
If ever I smell Amarige perfume, I want to chuck, it reminds me of morning sickness.
If ever I hear 'when a man loves a woman - percy sledge' it makes me wanna yell "thank f*ck for divorces" it reminds me of my ex husband
lol
Everytime I look at my old cat it's sad to think that he's the only thing from my marriage that I still have that's worth anything to me. My ex bought him as a kitten for my birthday 15 years ago redface
My Mum (bless her) bought a proper old-fashioned green pram when my son was born. It has a white liner inside the hood with a pattern of tiny green sprigs all over it.
Whenever I took my son out in it I had the vivid memory of being under exactly the same pattern myself - and bearing in mind I have never been in a pram since I was a baby - I have to assume it is a baby-memory.

Interesting - it is said that people cannot remember that far back, but I have a memory of being on my mother's knee in an air raid shelter - and I was born in 1944. The memory was prompted by a similar scene in a black and white film on TV, so I cannot be sure that it was not an imagination reaction to the film!
I repeat, interesting.

Im the same with Cacharel for me Jaymar....a guy I used to work with wore it when I was preggy with my third, and it used to make me wanna hurl ......if I smell it now, I instantly start feeling really sick (and my son is 8 now)
