What a great idea they are... A great way to remember special things and special people.. they can be posh boxes bought for the purpose or homemade ones..
Some of you know that my mum has a very nasty cancer and last night we went to a local cancer support group meeting and a lady was giving a talk about making memory boxes for the family. I had only really seen the empty ones in shops and today I have been thinking of things I would put in one to say something about who I am.
I would probably need 2!!
One for the nawty minxy biggrin
and one for mummy minxy :D
What 10 things would you put in yours to start with?
my 10 are...
A cd of some of my fave songs
A photo album of the daft pics of me.. you know - the ones you cringe about when kids see them :D
My fave mary berry cookbook
The first embroidary I stitched
The wristbands from when my babies were born
My ticket stubbs from assorted gigs over the years :D
A log - I have an obesession as to where to get firewood from (and have for many years :D )
A lindt choccy bunny :D
Clinique happy perfume bottle
A pressed rosemary sprig..
this is my mummy box..:D
so what would you put in one?
I have one
A 12 inch ponytail, my own hair (don't ask!)
My son's scan photo, hospital wrist bands, cot cards from being born and a curl of his hair
Some of my son's teeth (why?)
Birth and baptism certificates
Some special cards and letters
2 music cd's that my aunt made for charity before she died
Some photographs
A few Autographs, some on football programmes
Mine would have:
Family photos.
An iPod full of all my fave tracks - most of which mean something/remind me of somewhere/someone.
My poetry book - it has my own poems and my favourite poems copied out in it.
Thank you cards I've had from work.
That would probably be it.
But if I ever get round to publishing my book, a copy of that too!
I think I have most of mine set up in an old Bounty box which is the box I got my baby samples in when I was first pregnant.
It contains the usual stuff from the childrens hospital tags to a few cards, photos and pictures they've draw over the years.
I'd also contains a baby's rattle. A few days after telling my Dad (19 years ago) that he was going to become a Grandad, he went out and brought its first toy, a red and yellow rattle. All three children have played and I will treasure it for so many reasons.
To that box I'd add a small photo album which contains snap shots of my life. It used to belong to my Nan and had pictures from before my time, until about 10 years ago. Including a picture from when I was a small child, a picture of me on my wedding day with my Nan and Nanna and a picture of our first child. It is well used and very well loved redface
Thank you for sharing your special things...
My brother is getting married in October and I am going to make him and his new wife a box for them to keep special bits n bobs in...
Ohh Kaz.. I am very sentimental, and keep everything biggrin Mum is like me as well, we have been talking about it and decided that we have a memory house :D as there are so many things here we cant part with, but they have no monetry value.
Actually, I thought about this thread earlier today at work.
I realised that the contents of my imaginary box are quite selfish/self-indulgent things. I can't imagine the selflessness needed to be a parent.
I am quite relieved I get to just think about me. :giggle:
A different slant on this theme ...
When my brother-in-law died the day before his son's 9th birthday, I bought my nephew a very special wooden box and, using some silver stick on letters, put '*****'s memory box' on the top. Inside, I put an empty note book and pen and a small photo album. I said to my newphew it was a box where he could put items / photos that were special and reminded him of his dad - the book was to write his feelings and 'letters' to his dad even though he wasn't there in person.
He's 16 now and still treasures his memory box
