Silly little problem really, but It's getting me frustrated. I normally have the URL box, or address box, spanning the whole screen, just under the toolbar. Something has happened beyond my control, and I now have a "search the web" box across one half of the screen, and the URL box across the other half. I cannot get rid of this search box, to get things back the way they were! I have tried toolbar options, internet options, but cannot find what I need to do the trick. I'd be grateful for a tip, I'm sure the solution is some little thing I should have known.
Mike.
right click on your box (home, print, history etc) and untick the new search the internet option
hope this works
There are a couple of things here, Mike.
1, right click on a grey bit of toolbar you should get a list of things, some with a tick, click on the one that says search or something similar and it should disappear.
2, if you want the search toolbar, but on a different line (so id doesn't hal obscure the url bar) right click on a grey bit again, make sure "Lock toolbar" is unticked. The tool bars should no be seperated by a small vertical line, if you hover your mouse on this line it turns into a double headed arrow, drag this up or down and it should drop onto the line above or below.
3, some of these toolbars are spyware and claim to help your browsing experience whilst collecting data about what you do on the Internet and sending you popups, one of the most common is ISTBar, more info . should get rid of it

Thanks guys for your advice. I have just discovered that this search box came when I downloaded a program, so once I removed the program it disappeared with it. And thanks Marmalaid, I must definitely consider getting Spybot.
Mike.
In the top right corner of my screen there is a legend "Switch Views" and then two boxes "Basic" and "Enhanced". If I click on Enhanced, I get the screen as originally described. I can switch between the two views.
Edit: Just gone and tried it. Yep, Basic and Enhanced.
