That's very good news.
Now you can kick it in the bollox for disappearing
It's actually a perfectly natural survival trait for cats to do this, and it's the same thing that makes them go off their favourite brand of catfood every few months too.
Basically, it used to be dangerous for wild cats to become totally dependent on one food source (because when they've eaten it all, they had no means of surviving) so most cats have a built in desire to occasionally prove to themselves that they can live without you every now and then. It's one of those little traits that shows the wild origins of the domestic cat, like 'marching' and having staring matches.
if you have him neutered, it will stop the wandering instinct.
he will still go out side.. but wont go afar, and also wont stay out for long.
gives you piece of mind with regards to him going missing and getting hurt.. and also stops the potential birth of unwanted kittens that may end up being misstreated or put down.
Yes, I'm with WBB on this, neutering is the way to go. Here's a quote from the PDSA website
"Getting your female cat neutered, unless you are intending to breed from your cat with absolute certainty of good homes for the kittens, is essential, as the average number of offspring produced by a cat is four, but it can be as many as eight. Neutering females also reduces the incidence of mammary tumours later on in life.
Un-neutered male cats, as well as fathering kittens, get involved in more fights, can spray urine to mark their territory and they tend to roam more. Fighting can lead to abscesses, as well as increasing the chance of developing other diseases spread through saliva. A roaming cat will also be more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident."
