I thought i would try here... before i start ranting about it in the Steam room
I have had the same /messenger address/ID for the best part of 6 years.......
now until staurday i have had no problems with it or messenger ever.......
now it looks like someone has hijacked my ID and they are asking me to prove it it mine...
so i have give them them the name of some of the folders i had in there... the I.P address it was always used from (i only ever used it from home) some of the people who I would get e-mails from, some of the e-mails i had saved ect ect...
and none of this seems to be good enough for them.....
even after I pointed out to them that i own have the same e-mail name for , aol, virgin-media ect that they could all check and varify.... why would i be lying about one account, i have the same name for and and it i am using the . one for correspondance with them...
there solution for everything..... get a new username!!!
doesn't help me since everyone and everything i had was on that account.......
anyone else been thru this......
help..........
Not been through it but just wanted to do this :therethere: All sounds like a nightmare, hope all gets sorted.
Nola xx

I dont know if this helps but I had a virus hit me on saturday from a friend..it said something along the lines of this image reminds me of you then my email address. once I recieved it it was sent to all contacts in my contact address that were online. but lucky for me there was a friend who was like a knight in shining armour he helped me to kill the virus.
someone hijacked our account about 2 years ago so we mailed msn told them about it they sent back an email with 20 questions on it for us to fill in. we didn't know all the answers but to prove the point we mentioned extra info like folders stored on that account plus which isp's we'ed used while holding that account and they sent us a code which lasted 3 days to retrieve our hijacked addy back. also i think what helped is we pay a fee each year on our family addy to get more storage etc and on the family addy we'ed saved mails etc from the other addy.
we asked if it was an international hijacker or maybe a friend who had worked out our password but due to confidentiality they wouldnt divulge that info.

this is what they have made me do for the last 3 days... basically had to jump thru hoops to get it back about 15 minutes ago.......
so panic over..... I am happy to have my bits back....
so panic over..... I am happy to have my bits bac.....

Did that cut those off too!!!
Never happened to us hun, how the hell could they get your email addy AND password?
I can only imagine your frustration Seanie kiss
I was hacked years ago whilst I was away on holiday! Whomever it was, went in chatrooms using my ID, set up awful porn groups and a whole host of other stuff to my computer.....as well as giving out my mobile phone number to strangers in chatrooms!!! mad
I didnt know about this till some guy who I knew from the chatroom called me to say it was being posted in open rooms.. thats how he got the number to call me! He wanted to know what an earth I was playing at being so stupid...
HOw whoever it was got all my info I dont know. I wrote to msn to see what they could do and because I joined the .com one I had to put any old number for the zip code..... I couldnt get it back because of that.
I ended up paying some guy to come an sort it all out. An one of my sisters hasnt spoken to me since then..... no idea what happened with her, she wont tell me so I gave up worrying about it!
Amazing what damage people who are vindictive can do!
Yep, this happened to me a few years ago! I actually had a friend txt me saying "are u on msn cos whoever Im speaking to, doesnt seem to be you". At the time I was driving and in traffic (I replyed when I had come to a stand still - can not and wouldnt txt and drive at the same time) and the mr was at work.
God knows how it happens Fabs but when I got in to change my password, my secret question was something really silly, so had obviously changed that too evil I actually contacted another friend to contact my email provider about this but heard sod all back.
I ended up, unfortunately, had to change my email address and the email addresses I could remember off-by-heart, I contacted them to tell them what happened.

I guess the only real answers are
Keep a record of your "contacts" list -- possibly in paper form
Don't divulge your passwords
Don't use the same password for several different accounts
Change your password regularly -- every month is reasonable - and use a password with letters and numbers
Use a good anti virus -- if you get a trojan horse on your PC (see another thread on that subject) the "manipulator" can collect all your passwords and will be only too happy to sell them on to a third party.
I think the main culprits here are people using Keyloggers, description here
Thankfully there are now programs available to beat Keyloggers but please be aware that most anti virus programs will not find / recognise these little blighters, you often need a dedicated keylogger detection program. More info here

I use a key scrambler to safeguard against this pest which seems to work so far

Hope this helps
.
Horrified at the thought of losing all my email addy's, I've just copied the whole lot into a word doc.
Thank you

I did all that HJ.....
The guy who came to sort my comp out told me that when I had my computer upgraded (actually practically rebuilt), he reckoned the person who did it installed something on my computer... so he had to keep coming back to my home to sort out problems I had (like a twit I was paying him everytime confused ) I sorta had a feeling that something wasnt right as even though I was newbie to computers in them days, no way could I knacker one up on such a regular basis! :? :?
There really isn't much you can do about someone like that anais -- once someone has free rein on your PC ( no doubt supplied with all your passwords etc ) they can do pretty much what they like. So you need to find someone more trustworthy !!

Dearest Pete,
Many thanks for all your tips.
I already had Windows Defender & AVG (both FREE).
Yet after reading this thread & your advice I did a Google & found this page:

Very good & the sofware is working very well indeed.
I also found this. You see a nice porn site put the website address on this site & check if it's clean:

Simple & easy.
Again thank you very much. If we meet I'll get you some drinks.
From,
Wunderhorse.
