I thought i would try here... before i start ranting about it in the Steam room
I have had the same /messenger address/ID for the best part of 6 years.......
now until staurday i have had no problems with it or messenger ever.......
now it looks like someone has hijacked my ID and they are asking me to prove it it mine...
so i have give them them the name of some of the folders i had in there... the I.P address it was always used from (i only ever used it from home) some of the people who I would get e-mails from, some of the e-mails i had saved ect ect...
and none of this seems to be good enough for them.....
even after I pointed out to them that i own have the same e-mail name for , aol, virgin-media ect that they could all check and varify.... why would i be lying about one account, i have the same name for and and it i am using the . one for correspondance with them...
there solution for everything..... get a new username!!!
doesn't help me since everyone and everything i had was on that account.......
anyone else been thru this......
help..........
Not been through it but just wanted to do this :therethere: All sounds like a nightmare, hope all gets sorted.

I dont know if this helps but I had a virus hit me on saturday from a friend..it said something along the lines of this image reminds me of you then my email address. once I recieved it it was sent to all contacts in my contact address that were online. but lucky for me there was a friend who was like a knight in shining armour he helped me to kill the virus.
someone hijacked our account about 2 years ago so we mailed msn told them about it they sent back an email with 20 questions on it for us to fill in. we didn't know all the answers but to prove the point we mentioned extra info like folders stored on that account plus which isp's we'ed used while holding that account and they sent us a code which lasted 3 days to retrieve our hijacked addy back. also i think what helped is we pay a fee each year on our family addy to get more storage etc and on the family addy we'ed saved mails etc from the other addy.
we asked if it was an international hijacker or maybe a friend who had worked out our password but due to confidentiality they wouldnt divulge that info.
I guess the only real answers are
Keep a record of your "contacts" list -- possibly in paper form
Don't divulge your passwords
Don't use the same password for several different accounts
Change your password regularly -- every month is reasonable - and use a password with letters and numbers
Use a good anti virus -- if you get a trojan horse on your PC (see another thread on that subject) the "manipulator" can collect all your passwords and will be only too happy to sell them on to a third party.
I think the main culprits here are people using Keyloggers, description here
Thankfully there are now programs available to beat Keyloggers but please be aware that most anti virus programs will not find / recognise these little blighters, you often need a dedicated keylogger detection program. More info here
I use a key scrambler to safeguard against this pest which seems to work so far
Hope this helps
.
Horrified at the thought of losing all my email addy's, I've just copied the whole lot into a word doc.
Thank you
There really isn't much you can do about someone like that anais -- once someone has free rein on your PC ( no doubt supplied with all your passwords etc ) they can do pretty much what they like. So you need to find someone more trustworthy !!
