Ok. Being a bit of a munch-a-holic, i get quite excited by the whole build up to a Munch and like to see who will be coming. Who's new and which regulars will be attending and who I would really like to not miss. Except sometimes you can end up trawling a large part of the thread to find the list.
So in the spirit of democracy, here's a little poll, should the list be on the page one, near the top or first entry where everyone can find it no problemo... or shall we wear out our mouse searching page after page getting distracted by stuff?
It would be easy enough for the organisers to use the edit button to keep it up to date too...
Just my view, but would be interested if anyone else also has any views on this...

If you look at the Leicester Munch thread, you'll see that Steph isn't going to post a list. Why do you need to see one?

I thought I had explained myself at the begining there. I'm not against organizers deciding to NOT post a list, after all that is their choice. I'm just asking about to see if common concensus would like the list, if there is one, on page one.
Sgt Bilko, not too sure if where you comment is aimed at or how it is pointless. So will refrain from answering right now.
I personally do like to see who's names are on the list when deciding if I'd like an invite or not. Having said that, I don't normally put my name on lists published in open forum but use an alias instead.

Well reasonable thread in my mind, always wondered why peeps don't use the first post of threads for updates on things like munches

As to not publishing lists at all, well I could easily warm to that, you could publish stats, but not lists. However there are 2 sides to every thing, while it avoids unpleasantness if someone goes off the list, and protects the identities of those going. It also adds lots of work to those running the list answering the 'Am i on the list' questions, and makes it harder to meet with friends by seeing they are going.
I would go with what Libra said, have a list, and post false ID's for anyone who wants them. No rules broken as it is not a name you posting under, or false email or anything and mods can still ask for unabriged lists. Gives people who want a little anonymity the ability to have it, but also allows people to see numbers of people and couples down for an event. Also if you use the same 'alias' your friends will know you going without the whole world being able to trace back through your normal username...

I have just organised a Munch. I put the list up forums but i do have a few people who come that dont want there names in the public forums for what ever reason didnt ask cause its there personal choice. So there names dont go on.
But personally i do like to see whos going to a munch but then again every1 different

Personally I don't think that a list of attendees is necessary because, like Calista says, the element of surprise when greeted by a friendly face is better than the recipients of Its Your Life, but on the other hand......................

Surely if you're going to a munch and you're really excited, you'll be following the thread anyway, so you'll know roughly who's going without seeing a list?
If it's mates, you'll possibly have chatted to them anyway and found out. If you want to avoid someone, that might not always be possible because some people, as has been demonstrated on this thread, will use an alias or simply be known to the organisers without being known to all and sundry on the forum.

Yeah , right! I find it hard enough to remember if I am on the list... let alone a hundred others....
Seriously though, I see your point in that the element of surprise is always nice, and that there will be people who are coming but aren't showing. But simply for me, the last thing I do before setting off is to have a look at the latest list, to see who is coming, and who has bailed out at the last moment.
Why? Because a munch is hectic and it's easy to get to the end and have missed someone you were really looking forward to seeing. At the last Munch, Yorks, I wanted to put a face to 2 people in particular who had been making me laugh on the forum. Mr Happy Cats and Dino. Managed to meet and speak to both as I knew they were going due to refering to the list....
Anyhows, just my personal view... doesn't make it right, but that's what i like...

I agree with you Postie, I like to know who is going to a munch. There are so many munches now that I can easily forget whether some particular member I know well is down for one munch, or can't make another munch.
Also, I have always found that munch organisers are willing to PM me an up-to-date list of attendees when I have asked them.

The Yorkshire Munch went very very well. and peeps have asked us to do another 1. In fact the landlord suggested 1 a month but i cant committ to organising 1 a month. Only doing another 1 cause the people that attended enjoyed it so much. At the end of the day its the people who attend that make a munch not the organisers. So if the demands there i dont mind do 1 every now and then.

I don't think we need hard and fast rules, the organisation of such events is so time consuming that I doubt many organisers could manage more than 1 a year. For the smaller events if people want to meet more then great
Supply and demand on both organisers time and munchers willing to attend should keep the ballence....My only concern would be dueling munches, where people setup one the same weekend as another. Trying to poach peeps from the existing event. However I doubt it would happen, and sure the mods could find a solution if it did.
