I forgot....
Like both as I can meet the people behind the avatars,
photos & posts.
Don't get nervous as we are all members of this wonderful community yet I can understand why members
feel this way.
Like the members that are just either Froum (like me)
or Chatroom people.
Great thread noladreams30.

Go to a munch or soical and have fun meet people and get chatting.....
During year 2005, I was only at home 2 or 3 weekends, the rest of the time I was out and about at munches etc and yes it cost ££££ but it was well worth it!!!!
The munch bunch were /are a wonderful group of people.
haven't been to one yet but have talked about it. I think it's on the 'to do' list when a weekend becomes available.
How do you walk into a room full of people you've probably never met before though?

Ask the arranger for a handholder, this is someone who you can meet during the afternoon / or at the door, and they will then introduce you to people / help you out for the first couple of hours or so.
ill need two bodygards to attend!
I love going to munches. If I had the time & money I would attend as many as I possibly could lol
We've had to cancel the last few though due to work & babysitters etc

Hey Sarah,
I have been to a few Munches and Socials and I really enjoy them.
I was just trying to promote a bit of a debate about them. For me, they are a real positive about this site and part of the reason why I really enjoy being a member (without sounding like a complete suck up!) It is such an ace time to get to know people, put names to faces etc and generally to make some rather super friends!!
So yeah, I'm a fan!
And am off to Bolton in September and Wigan in December - rock on!! :bounce:

:lol2: You so wouldn't we would buy you a drink anytime. Get along to one.
i think socials can be fun and a gr8 way of meeting ppl
Don't get me wrong... I love going to munches and socials, and to anyone who hasn't tried one I would say go, they are not for everyone....
the thing I will say about munches is (this is going to sound dated) they are not what they use to be..... they have become local things instead of the big weekends we made of them in the past...
at the yorkshire munches you will get very few people going from outside yorkshire..... same thing for the north west munches.....and the midlands ones...
munches have just became bigger local socials......
I was at the munch little miss was talking about it essex.... the funny thing is that people came from all over the country to go to that.... it was like a mini northern invasion...
or the 1st ever notts munch that I went to where, it felt normal from a person who came from newcastle, to talk in person with people from bristol, or london, or manchester, or glasgow
that is what I miss most about the old munches... you use to meet people from all corners of the UK, now if someone travels from outside the confines of the local chatroom, you do at times feel like an outsider.........

I've not been to an SH munch for ages redface
Think i had to drop out of the last two i was down for but i really should come along and annoy some of you lot in person again
Now, should i look for a mighty Manchester munch or try out the legends that are Notts munch or Wigan munch? dunno
One life, live it.
Go if you can afford it, if you can't don't.
Personally the whole Munch scene leaves me cold. Why? Because in my limited experience (thanks to a very special lady) I found that the organizers put a massive amount of effort into it, spend a huge amount of spondies to make it work, and really, its just another nightclub experience that to be honest i shook off in my 30's dunno
OK so I've only been to two, that said, as well organised as they were, I would have preferred to get to meet people in an atmosphere where we could actually hear what people were saying, have a conversation without having to SCREAM at eachother, and genuinely get to know people :dunno:
guess i'm just old rolleyes

Think I've seen some big ones around here somewhere :lol2: :lol2:
Pete I do know what you mean.... I suppose it can be like that at times, I don't go out that much anyway so its a treat for me.
I love going to the pre drinks, that's where you can get chance to have a good chin wag! Not that I talk much of course

Never had the pleasure of pre drinks but thinking about it, for me they would probably be more fun than the munch itself to be honest dunno
by the way you need to check your PM box from time to time :lol2:
I guess all I'm really saying is that I prefer social meets where its possible to sit and have a chat etc, the last munch I went to I had more conversation and interaction with the 'smokers' standing outside the venue (in the rain) than i could possibly have had with anyone inside :dunno: its a personal observation and probably not relevant to most but hey ho. kiss

The pre drinks are great fun Pete and very chilled out. Plus if you don't want to go to the evening do, go to the pre drinks only... especially if it isn't to far for you to travel.
Just seen my pm Ta  Will get back to you sooooooooooonnnn!! lol

Now that sounds like fun to me, wasn't aware that you could do the pre drinks only. so now i'm interested again lol
thanks hun kiss
as far as I was aware, the pre-drinks for Munches were for those attending the Munch only. Or certainly confirmed on the list.
That's what I've observed anyway.
Just thought I'd mention it, as there are stricter rules surrounding munches than socials.

In the past when I have arrange pre munch afternoon drinkies, I have let people attend who were not attending the munch itself, and from what I can remember it has only been a total of 4 to 6 people over 4 years!
The main reason for this is they would have attended the munch, but work / kids etc mean they couldn't make it, but they could make the afternoon drinks.
Pre munch invites are as I understand it, are down to the arranger of the pre munch drinks, and are outside the munch rules themselves.

Hmmmm.... being a relatively new Muncher (in the last two years, that is) I can't comment on what used to happen. What I will say, is that for me it is often a purely practical and logistical thing that stops me from going to a Munch that is outside the North West. Money - or lack thereof - and an inability to drive/reliance on public transport.
I would have thought for other folk this is similar. If you go to a Munch and are staying in a hotel that costs. Add in train fares and travel time and sometimes they are impractical to get to in a particular weekend.
I don't stick to Munches in the North West due to any loyalty to a geographical chatroom. In fact, I don't particularly frequent the North West chatroom at all. I go to the Munches and socials I can physically get to. Now, when I have passed my driving test, maybe I can go on a Munch road trip a bit further afield... but with the exhorbitant cost of petrol at the mo, I probably doubt it!
I guess what I am trying to say is that I think it maybe less about geography linked to local loyalty and more about practical issues of time/finance.
I do love the fact that there are folk (like your good self Fabio!) who will put a huge amount of effort in and travel up and down the country. That is the best thing about SH events, the sheer diversity of people you can meet.
wink Right, am off to check LMU to see where there is a munch in unchartered territory that I may be able to get to... all in the spirit of adventure and mind-broadening research you understand!!

A Bolton one too.
As being fairly new to sh, and as i single female, i always advoide attending munches/socials. Not sure what image i had in my mind about these events, but with some friendly words from nice people i chat to in the chatrooms, i decided, ohhh hell why not. I think it was late 2007 that i first took the step and attended one of these, being ill late Ded 06 had knocked my confidence greatly, and i certainly needed a lift.
I attended the Yorkshire munch and from the moment i met up with friends who were attending i felt at ease. I was excited about putting faces to the profile names that i chatted to in the chat rooms, and actually chatting to them in person. That buzzing feeling was creeping back a good boost for me, as had not felt it in a long time since being ill.
The friends who took care of me, (Hand holders) made sure that the hotel was booked for me, met me at the hotel, and shared a cab to the event. I had the biggest butterflys going, and hell did it feel good.
Then on arriving at the event, they stayed with me, introducing me to various other members of the site, and who called into the chat rooms. The event was wow! that old buzz was back, i met and spoke to some lovely people, who also recognised me and come over to say "hi, and good to see you looking well again."
The venue was great, there was a disco, but if you were people who wanted to chat more, then you could go to another area where the music was not so loud and chat without yelling.
Those staying in the hotel, met in the loby before and after and chatted more there, drinks and coffee.
Now wild horses will not keep me away from a Yorkshire munch, not even a slight accident on my way to the hotel for the last one, car and me fine lol, Was a bit cheesed of, as was meeting up with friends at the hotel and going in the pool first, but still made it, just in time to shower and get ready.
I will even go as far to say, that if not for the friends i have made along the way on attending these, and those i chat to in the chat rooms, i dont think my recovery would have been as fast. I have had so much support in the chat rooms and from so many, i have gone from strength to strenght. My confidence is back and my ability to enjoy my life has also returned, and although i would not consider walking into a pub or night club on my own, i would certainly have no hesitation in attending a Yorkshire munch on my own as i have done in the past.
Think im on my 5th munch now due in Oct, and im counting the days lol. Love seeing and chatting to the friends i have made along the way and also making new ones, since being a member of sh, and to those friends i have made, i must say a very very BIG THANK YOU, for all the support that you have given me at a very very tough time. Im so glad i moved to Yorkshire and met you all.
So all you new members make the effort, get out there and attend some of these events, the only regret i have, is that i did not attend sooner, and it took my illness to make me realise just what i had been missing.
Love

Only this morning (well, afternoon maybe... we were late getting to sleep! wink) was someone espousing the delights of Yorkshire to me... he was quite convincing!!
lol ohhh i dont often post as you will see from previous posts, unless its to do with attending a Munch. When i read what i put, i thought omg, do i go on or what, but its a story i wanted to share.
I just wanted people to know just how much it helped me. I think i have recovered as best i will for the most part, Im still under the hospital and my balance is still affected, but thats soon corrected when i have a few vk`s, i actually keep my balance lol.
I now say i may be blonde but i have a brain and can prove it, and hey now i have some expensive metal in my head, i never lose a signal on my mobile lol.
This has really left me with the ability to laugh about what happend to me and the affects it left me with. Changing a light bulb gets intresting tho lol
but no i dont have a vk just to do it, just needs a little more thought.
It was a brain anurisum that left me having brain surgery on xmas day 2006 then spent 4 days in a coma and life support. 14 Days after the event, and amazing the doctors, i walked out of that hospitl and my friend on sh were to do with that.
Friends on sh, who informed my family in Kent what had happend and kept in touch with them and visited me in ITU when i was out of the woods so to speak, my family who are all in Kent really apprecaited the help and support that not just given to me, but to them as well.
This is what keeps me on sh, the jokes the laughs, and most of all the friendships that are made. Think i will still be here when im old and grey, ohhh forgot, i am old, lol ok grey then,
Anais and nola, you and others would be soooo very welcome at the Yorkshire munch, the Oct one is being organised by Cocksnoggers this time, previous to that it was swife, (slutwife) but i wont call her that lol.
It would be great to meet you and any other new peeps who may get there. Loads of hotels in the area and from a good price, so look forward to meeting you one day.
Love Bo -x-
