Wigan Munch fast approacheth and, as per usual, I am getting giddy. T'is the prospect of seeing old friends and meeting new - and the fact that I have jolly bloomin' lovely company for the weekend. But pre-Munch pondering, as I do (whilst working the list, checking out who I want to flirt with/maybe snog/chat to etc) and I was thinking when you go to a Munch are you a wallflower or do you work the room? I reckon I'm kinda half and half... well, not exactly a wallflower but I certainly never end up chatting to half the people I would actually like to. I set out with all these good intentions of folk to meet and natter to but usually get sidetracked. So, what are your Munch tactics? Nola x
I'm a bit of an inbetweenie too. I don't go to anywhere near as many socials as I used to, so a lot of my time is spent catching up with old friends I've not seen for ages. I do generally have a mental list of people I really want to speak to in person though, and as the night goes on I usually say hello to a few random people, have a quick natter and sometimes that's been the beginning of a good friendship Other times I've sort of remembered speaking to someone but have absolutely no idea of who they were :doh:
Very interesting thread, looking forward to the responses. We have only been to one, it was last month. We were scared, and sort of excited at the same time. I in business have to work a room at times, so know the score, but on this occassion felt a little bit different. We stood there for a while, no one really said "hi" so I thought, right lady, get yourself out there, say hello, and see what happens. Had a few little chats, then we ended up chatting to other newbies like us, we all stood out a mile! Whilst chatting to this couple, I spotted another couple all alone for ages, and thought they are going to walk out soon as no one was chatting to them, so I left Mike, and went and said hello. They said I was they saviour, as they were just going to leave, as they felt ignored! I do realise there has to effort made on both sides though. Is there a way that newbies can ask for a bit of help at socials, as they are a little scary at first, fear of the unknown and all that. Next one we go to, I want to find a way to say hello to everyone, if possible! Don't think it will be at the Wigan one though, unless I go on the tannoy, it looks like its going to be a full room! Fun times!
Wallflower here, sit quietly in a corner and dont speak to anyone unless Im spoken to first Edit - I do normally have an alphabetical list of people though, just so I can tick them off as they arrive :lol:

Joking apart, I may do that this time. I could play Munch Bingo! :giggle: It did start a bit of a trend... it works though. I did it for my first ever munch and I didn't want to miss anyone so I took my list round and ticked everyone off. I still have it. There were 113 people on it! I met them all! :mrgreen:

Thanks Nola, and if there is anyone reading this who is a bit nervous about coming to Wigan, then please let me know straight away, as I do have a list of people who are more than willing to be 'hand holders' and show you round and introduce you to a few people. We also give out a phone number so if anyone arrives and feels a bit nervous about coming in, either myself or Mr NWC will come outside and meet you and then show you round. Plus people are more than welcome to keep the 'door crew' company (which is my way of saying a big thank you to GingerJo who always does a fantastic job on the door and ends up giving up her night of partying) :lol:

Yeah, your like me, sit quietly in a corner all night with your mug of cocoa When I go to other munches, I do like to make a mental note of who is on the list so I can make sure I say hello to people who Ive chatted to on the forums but not had the chance to meet. However, in reality, I ususal do end up chatting to old friends I havent seen for ages and then end up coming home and reading the 'thank you' posts the day after and realising that I didnt even get the chance to see, never mind talk to, half of the room
I usually sit quietly, until last year at Wigan, when I was actually brave enough to speak to people first. This year I plan to do the same. :D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Best lift I ever walked into Hmm. It would depend on my mood. As in any social situation, If I'm feeling lively, I'll be life & soul. If not- I'll sit in a corner & just be. We've only done one Munch, and can't see us doing another...I think I'm better in a small group where I can charm people with my wit. Smaller groups where you can get to know a few people & hear yourself think...it's the future! :idea:
stopped doing munches errrr ......bloody hell i cant remember the last one.....ages ago.. opting for the more relaxed socials .... we are the shy sort.
