This is a bit of a long shot I know, but got to be worth a go!!
My Mk3 Golf GTI gearbox has finally bitten the bullet and has rendered me carless. I have looked at the usual sites to try and find a replacement but to no avail......and a reconditioned one is about 500 squids.
I dont suppose anyone has a Golf rotting away somewhere they are trying to get rid of? Or anything that I can rebuild! rolleyes
I'm not having any luck at the moment. The Corsa I bought decided to get rid of its head gasket 2 days after buying it and thats sitting in a garage awaiting £400 worth of work too! mad
So any help or ideas greatfully recieved!!
not at lot of help maybe, but have you considered contacting your local college?
they often will take cars in for their students to work on. Never know they may be able to do something with either of your cars at a fraction of garage costs, if any cost.

Have you tried eBay? its amazing what you can get from there biggrin
Try these people >>> "GSF"
They do plenty of goodies and are reasonable.
Phredd
Google them.
Get one from a scrap yard instead of a recon one, much cheaper biggrin
Scrappy would be the only place I'd be looking, now. Although try and gpost somethign in the For Sale/Wanted Section. Good folks on there.
pity it's not a landrover i've got a spare box and transfer box and diffs for a series 3 landy
Thanks for your help guys. I did try Ebay but there are very few if any Mk3 boxes around, and the local scrappers don't have anything either. I have put a post on Golf websites such as the site mentioned but again had no luck. Looks like I'm gonna have to break it and walk!
cheers anyway

Very doubtfull...
I've got a Golf, not so rusting away but quite old. You can't have it though as I'm still using it and too poor to buy a new one flipa
Its quite a distance from you but Sandwich in kent is home to a fantastic specialist VW/Audi breakers who supplied me with an engine a while ago. If you are desperate enough to travel that far, PM me and i'll find you their number.
Hi there i had a mk2 gearbox go on me and found a very good chap near me in Birmingham who reconditioned it for under you like i can get you the number and address and forward it on to you if thats any help, let me know Steve01.

I think it's more likey dependent who was Moderating on that day and what was happening in the Mods life.
Don't forget that the Mods have lives too..... but don't whatever you do let them know that we know that!
Try - it`s amazing what people have hidden in their garages in case it comes in useful one day.
Welcome to the forums Ice-n-lemon :welcome:
My car died today ( a rather clapped out cavalier as DF will verify). It failed the MOT badly and it will cost more to repair than the car is worth sad But stilll I (and my Dad) ) was heartbroken)
But I was sat there feeling sorry for myself and a colleague came along and started discussing her Grandsons' luekemia. Of course it made all the car problems fade into insignificance.
Yes I have to find the cash for a new car, yes I am saying goodbye to a vehicle that has looked after me well, but (thank whatever God) I only have to part with a material possesion.
