Ok im stuck :sticky:
In a couple of weeks my dad will be 50 :high-smile: and i have absolutely no idea what to get him
he doesnt collect things banghead
he only drinks 1 certain type of alcohol (which he gets every year)
he basically has everything he wants (at an age and making enough money to buy things he wants ) confused
10 years ago this would of been easy but now he is a very homely thing and i want to get him something really special
loon
Ive trawled through that bidding site (that im normally banned from) and loads of other sites but to no avail
so has anyone got any ideas daft or otherwise i will be eternally grateful for ever and ever
Thank you
Tan x
ok always a tough one choosing a present for a man especially dads as they never tell you what they want.
How about making him a scrapbook with pictures from your childhood and asking family if they have photos of him when he was a lad etc.... adding newspaper clippings an things, I think you can get the day I was born newspapers of the internet.
You could add little captions by your photos like remeber when sorta thing.
Just an idea xxxx good luck

yup thats a very nice idea cherry, i like idea alot kiss as for the newspapers one of him friends actually works for a printer who makes the papers of the day people was born so i guess he will get him one
A bit boring but how about a box set of DVD's of his fave TV series / films? Or find out if he still has loads of old vinyl LP's from his fave bands and buy them for him on CD?...........God I'm crap at this redface
Or try this:
If he has everything, maybe you could give him something to do rather than have...
Would he enjoy going to see something with you - tickets for a play/concert/opera/match/exhibition?
A trip to the Terracotta Army/Tutankhamun/Russians at the Royal Academy?
Membership of something - National Trust/Heritage/etc?
oh goodness I was pipped to the post.
I gave an older person a membership to the heritage trust thingie and apparantly it was the best present they had ever had as it gave them things to do and see and were also contributing to the upkeep of the sites.
cool

My dad went up in a hot air balloon for his 60th, he said that was the experience of a lifetime.
Hot air ballooning
F1 driving Silverstone or similar
Get the whole family together for a proper family photos at a good local photographers.
A title ...Lord of the mannor, or similar
I was thinking along the lines of Sarah- a track day or something.........I would imagine turning 50 is a sensitive one- and not time for a pipe & slippers. More of a good time to remind him that he's got plenty to look forward too
Do a this is your life type thing.........get all old friends / family etc etc

i really liked the idea of a racing day out or similar and had thought about it to previously
but he has a 14 month baby and if i was going to go down that track i would like something that his firt son could enjoy and join in to and i guess 14 months is a little to young
Had the whole family in a proffessional portrait about a year ago (a late wedding present/baby present to them) biggrin
they have the digital photo frame confused
lots of great ideas tho will look into the heritage trust ides tto
Tan, we've just bought a member of our family one of those digital photoframes and had 100's of photographs from years ago transferred to disc and put onto the frame. There wasn't a dry eye in the house looking at pics randomly moving around on the frame of relatives who've left us.
Really lovely gift, just an idea xx
I had a driving day at Belvoir castle for my 50th, it was fab, quad bikes, 4x4, honda pilots, hovercraft and a tank. Not cheap but a fantastic day for a petrol head.
I bought my folks National Trust membership for Christmas in 2006 and they LOVED it - to point where they renewed themselves the year after. They pack up the grandkids and take them out for days, they go and see places 'en route' when they are visiting relatives - and, like Splendid_ said, you also feel like you are contributing to the upkeep of places. You can get a year's family membership. If he likes getting out at weekends etc, might be good fun to take the baby to the various country parks etc come the Summer?
What about a magazine subscription if he has a hobby or interest that has a relevant magazine? That way, the present lasts all year... and sometimes magazines are little 'luxuries' that people don't or won't buy.
Hmmmm... I'll see what else I can think of!!

If he is of an adventurous nature then how about a tandem parachute jump?
