If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or setup program.
If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace missing file.

No, it`s a fresh harddrive with an updated version of Norton running. I`m wondering if it`s something to do with the way I setup Norton, I`m not very good with Firewalls. Either that, or some issue with a windows update, the problems began after I updated the system.

Cheers, I had a few good sites like this in my favourites, but lost them when my HD bit the dust. Be good to get a few back!

Does the machine have a network card, or just the modem? I've had this happen when a neetwork card has been setup wrong, or removed, or Windows has just got confused.
Probably worth checking Device Manager to see if there's any network adapter conflicts, as well as pulling the MS Network Client (as in that link), and the TCP protocol. You will need to go and add the TCP after a reboot though, as it's what the PC uses to talk to the internet!

Just the modem as far as I know.

with an updated version of Norton running.

IMHO Norton causes just as many problems as it solves. Some people seem to like Norton but personally I wipe it from any machine that turns up here.
It does look like the error messages you are getting refer to a network card. Even if its a stand alone pc,there may be a network card inside.
If it is a new drive as you suggest, maybe it would be worth fdisk'ing and format c: and start again. (assuming you have all your cd's for the drivers and software to get you back and running).

Yes, I have the drivers, although it`ll be a sod reinstalling everything again, especially since aside from the error messages there seems to be no effect. I used to use AVG, but that is soon to be discontinued, so I didn`t bother with it this time around.
I`ll wait til Mars comes home, he`s more familiar with what hardware we have.

There is a new version of AVG free out, they are just discontinuing the old one. Check out their web site for info
Oh! Cheers for that! Of course I`ll still need a firewall, which Norton seems to have covered. I`ll fix the current issue, and if it is down to Norton then I`ll change.
