I used to work in maufacturing, not cars, but it brought lots of things to my notice. You must al have seen the stockpiles of cars in fields and the likes? Anyone buying a new car will be suprised to find many are some years old before they are bought! Standing in fields, yards without being run...open to the elements. We used to bring loads of our products in, and have to repaint parts, replace parts and generally refit lots of stuff. So all the excess money over a second hand makes you ponder on the worth? I have never yet been able to afford a car less than 10 years old, no gripe, but I just think sometimes the forecourts have a massive con with their...' Buy it for a £1 more than we pay for it..'. quotes. I am sure they dont EVER discuss bulk purchace payments or how the smaller garages get the ones that have had the most parts fixed from the weather damage? If you got one fresh off the line, I would say it was all woth it, but unfortunately, that just is not the case! that is why you can get two cars of the same plate, one is great and the other is a shed.....
Isn't it the same for a lot of things though?
You pay your money and you take your chances. (unless you're pretty experienced with the item)
dunno
many many moons ago i worked for a Peugeot main dealer. After a short stint working there i was asked if i would like to visit the factory in Coventry where the Peugeot 309's were being built.
During the tour we saw the dashboards being fitted . The cars were moving around the factory slowly on a carriage system, at this stage there was no glass in the vehicles as it hadnt reached that stage in the assembly process.
The dashboards were lowered through the windscreen aperture whilst a young guy sat on the front seat and kicked the dashboard into place. I asked the production manager whether he felt that kicking the dashboard so to wedge it into position may be the reason that we as dealers got sooooo many complaints about dashboard rattles from customers. Needless to say he refused to comment and i was never invited back confused
We were also a little a little concerned to see the drivers wheelspining out of the factory into the compound blink
