Just wanted to flag this up as I wondered if it happens to other folks too.
I've sent a few messages to folks on here (both male and female) and have noticed that several of them remain unread, despite me having sent them days or even weeks previously. Also the recipient's profiles show them to have been on-line much more recently than the message was received so they've been on line when my unread message was in their inbox.
I'm wondering if they're somehow missing the fact that they have new messages, despite what I think is a pretty obvious indicator in the flashing red envelope. Could this be a tech issue where we need a more prominent indication that new messages are waiting for us?
One thing that struck me, particularly in terms of female members who I know get way more messages than guys, is that my message might not be on page 1 of their inbox any more and they may not think to look any further. That said it has happened with messages to guys too and I don't think we get as much mail as women on here by far.
So... is it me or has anyone else had this issue?

They may well have single guys / single females / couples / on ignore! they will never know you sent a message and it will just sit in your out box!
bearing in mind this "ignore" option and the current site developments:
it might be an idea if a person should have a group of people set to 'ignore' in thier mail options, the mail system should perhaps auto-respond with:
people like ou are not being read, do not mail this person again, or else!
or perhaps a more moderate:
The person you PM's has set thier mail options to ignore "single male*" accounts.
(*=other options available)

The red flashing envelope symbol doesn't always work. In the past I've had pms in my inbox and only discovered them by going there. Conversely, when someone noticed I was on line and pm'd me, the symbol appeared. But it certainly doesn't work all the time.
The other thing that stops the flashing red icon is where someone has sent you a message, and before you've read it they opened their Sent folder and read it themselves. The system only looks to see whether a message has been read at all, not who read it.
So if you're sending someone a message, don't be tempted to open it in your Sent items otherwise they won't get a new message indicator.
TBH I don't know if it changes the status - but by all means send me a message and read it first, and I'll let you know
Sarah waits for her flasher to start flashing as people carry out a test!

Messages deleted unread also stay in your inbox forever. I know that some people who get dozens of messages per day will often open the top few and then delete the rest unopened.
