The new pope had to be a German....why a German! and he is 78....so it won't be long before we see another one then!
It's a gamble. They chose John XXII as pope at the age of 77 when they couldn't agree on who was the right man for the job, hoping that this one would pop his clogs quickly. He lasted 5 years which pissed them off no end. So they introduced the "must be under 80" rule.
I dunno ........ what was wrong with the old pope eh ? Thats trouble with society today everything has to get messed about with even if it worked ok before . Years ago when people were built to last , Roman Italian popes were only replaced as a last resort, like when damaged by fire or other accidents ! If they contiue like this they will probably end up like the uk bike and car industries and one day the new pope will be made in Japan !
Pah I resign my faith ....oh hang on....they didn't let me join, oh well ill see what sort of deal I get with the BL Z Bub organisation.....Support Your local Independent soul trader I say !!!!!!
Dont need to read up on the Pope am RC, as have all my family as far back as we traced the family tree just up on 300 years. eireann go brach (should tell you where I come from)
(Chip Shop) humour bit of British comedy originated by Stan Boardman not meant to have been offensive
DaVinci Code actual book, infoming peeps to read it is just free speech and worth a read as it is thought provoking all the places and organisations in the book existed or exit.
Dont want to get into an arguement with mods, but there are my answers above
sorry if offence taken was not my intention to offend.
I've heard that Ratzinger is a Jew, and was just wondering - considering that christianity is a spin-off of judaism, how many jewish popes have there actually been? I'm guessing a lot of the early ones were, but how about in the last thousand years?
what made me laugh was the quotes in the papers saying " he is 78, the obviously dont want a long papacy".. bet he feels great when he reads that! lol
Hi there thought I'd put my first post in here, since it is a recent thing.
I still think they should have just done a Pope Idol TV show and let the people decide.
Maybe what they actually did behind the closed doors was a big knock-out tournament wrestling match like a Royal Rumble, or a Religious Rumble and the last one left in the ring gets to be Pope.
No Si , its a kewl idea . But what they actually do is get all the cardinals naked , then release a young greased up choir boy . Then the old fellas chase him round until they either die from exhaustion or one of em catches him . When the greasy teen is caught hey presto , the survival of the pontiff !
Incidentally the black smoke is from the bong they all have to chill out when the guvnor pegs out , the white smoke is from the ritual burning of a protestant to celebrate.
The bells are merely Satans morris dancers who always attend major vatican events.
OK - am just back from the airport after a business trip so appologies if this comes out wrong. As I starteded this thread I suppose I must comment.
New Pope? I wish him every success. I agree with some of what he is reported to have said but disagree totally with other things.
J3diMast3r (could you not get an easier name?) I agree with you 100% - no offence to anyone's faith but the ceremony, where it is held, seing all these guys dressed up etc. makes me wonder what this has got to do with religion and the people they represent. This has been a political election driven by the back room boys of the Vatican who have thier own agenda.
I hope the "newbie" does OK - I really do as he has a lot to live up to after the last incumbent who WAS a world leader - but I fear this is a caretaker, brought on from behind the scenes by the people behind the throne.
At the end of the day, who cares???????
Sorry, but McCloggie "haes his doots".
I could say a lot about this as a liberal but I don't think I should. I was hoping for a South American Pope who would put people before doctrine but we have another conservative. He wont last long and maybe the one after him will be a liberal.
He seems to have made a decent enough start. Wanting to start/continue dialogue with other faiths.
He only needs to soften his attitude on some of his (and Catholicisms) other more extreme views and he might actually start to get some people back into churches (doubtful)
A religiously conservative, socially progressive Pope may come along next time, which let's face it, isn't going to be too long.
I think the reason that they usually appoint an old Pope is simple.
An old Pope is unlikely to have the energy to instigate change within the church and if he does he will probably die before he succeeds.
Pope Benny 17th, a stocky sort of guy, who stutters out his English...oh and he wears a skull cap...
How long before the comedians turn the skull cap into a wooly hat and start making "Saint Diane" jokes...???
