Basically i was told that the best thing is to literally go through the hair, and remove the eggs one bye one,yes its a nightmare, but it does work!!
The half an hour ones arent reccommended as they cant kill them off thoroughly!
Try tea tree conditioner it works really you can even get the electronic combs now,but they coast about £20 a go!!
Once you get rid of them you can get a nit repellent which looks quite good.
Good luck with getting rid of the little feckers, since my daughter started school last year she's had it more times than i like to remember so i can sympathise, now i just need to stop scratching!!
Headlice are like fish, they breathe through gills - if you make them close them long enough they suffocate. You need to cover your daughters hair with conditioner (a tea tree one is brilliant) and leave it on for a few hours - then comb through with a proper lice comb and wash away.
If you repeat this every few days initially you should easily get rid of them, and comb through with the lice comb.
There is a great natural produc ton the market but the name escapes me ... as soon as I find the link I'll send it to you
As has been said...T tree oil is by far the best. It has natural enzymes the little buggers cant stand, and it does not smell that bad, more eucalyptus like. You can actually buy it in liquid form from hebalists, and they have it watered down for such purposes. many think they are attracted to bad hair, but they actually like clean heads! A friend used to mix it in her daughters shampoo to hide the fact she was using it, and kept doing it for ages until she cleared it up....

Just "normally" conditioning the hair and using a nit comb will work, but you need to do it at least twice a day for a fortnight.
The comb will remove the live "big" nits and the conditioner helps to make the hair slippy so they cant hold on...
The little nits grow up and are then removed when they are big enough to catch in the comb..
Any eggs left will hatch, grow up and be removed...
It works over 14 days because none of the big nits has time to mature anough to lay fresh eggs that would then hatch and again the conditioner helps because it makes it harder for the eggs to be attatched with something akin to souper glue, lol.
The only nit stuff I would recomend is the clear, not the white creamy, one that stinks to high heaven and is left on over night... but a second application a few days is required as it doesnt always kill the eggs as nitts... the cream one is just useless as the little buggers have become imune to it, and the clear liquid is not as effective as it used to be with the eggs.
Thats one reason that it was withdrawn from pescriptions... that and the fact it was costing so much to the NHS.
Calista mentions a natural lotion, I also cant remember the name but its made by Welida just arround the back from my house in ilkeston... and I can attest to it working as when my estranged daughter used to visit from her mothers it was up to me to do her hair... when you empty a bath and there are dead ones stuck to the sides... you know it works, lol.

Oh nits are little buggers. I get them now and again and they really are hard to shift. As I have long hair brushing them out never works. I've tried conditioner, nit shampoos, dog flea spray    , but they never work. Even hair dye doesn't  The only think that seems to do the job is Wella colour mousse. Put that in your hair and the itching stops right away. Not suitable for small children though - shame cos it does seem to be one thing that works.
I think for small kids brushing constantly with a nit comb is the only thing that really can be done. Remember the eggs live on pillows etc, and they can survive washing rolleyes .
The little bastards will take over the world eventually, I'm sure
aaa nits
i use calistas way of getting rid of the little horrors
or a quicker way which my son just loves get the old hair clippers out and give him a skin head
they are rife at the moment in the schools you feel you just get rid of one lot and they come home scratching again
I swear by the electronic comb. It may be initially expensive but it can be used over and over again.
Good luck xxxx
Never buy them specialist shampoos! They work when first released onto the market, but the little bastards soon get immune to each new insecticide.
The best advice I ever got for dealing with them was via Google...
As John says, study the enemy's breeding cycle. Invest in a good quality conditioner - to make the combing easier - and a simple single toothed 'dust comb' from the chemist. And make sure you remove all the swines between each stroke as they'll escape again and set up camp somewhere else...
Did someone say this site was supposed to be about casual sex? blink
Well all I can say is, if, at the SMB, I have my hair all scooped up and beautifully coiffed, and the ultra voilet lights show up beautiful gowing little white specks in the back of my hair............this is part of the costume, honest!
I deny all suggestions that these are in fact old nits that are a bugger to remove redface
Gotta love life with kids!
Nothing living in the hair though smile
Venusxxx
try
I have used this lotion on my kids and myself with very good effect. People have mentioned Tea Tree oil, but this also has Neem oil which is the main working ingredient.
Good luck! It's a yukky business, but one that comes to us all at sometime.
