yeah in the song it says about him wanting to turn into a t-rex so he can eat all the bullies, and in the chorus says he's glad he's not in school ..

And here's me having never heard of it until now. Didn't know it was anti-bullying week either.
My daughter absolutely loves this (kids rolleyes lol )
I read an article about how the song came about - the guy who wrote it was bullied at school, and the thing that kept him going was that his dad used to pick him up from school in this bloody great big JCB instead of a car/ walking. Hence Dad was super-cool and being in the JCB makes him feel big & on top of the world when he's riding in it and not facing bullies at school. The 'JCB' is a euphamism for a sense of 'power' and escapism that the lad needs psychologically as his coping mechanism. Also hints at the bond & love between father & son too, which is nice - this'll be the one that pulls heart strings over Xmas once folk understand what the song is actually about.
It does kinda grow on you doesnt it?! Christmas No. 1 me thinks! :karaoke:
Brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it dunno
Rubbish - can't understand why it's so popular at all. And it's an amusing thought if so many of you who are drivers are enjoying a song that eulogises a JCB holding up all the traffic. lol

I just don't think that as a song it will do anything to stop bullying. You tell me where the problem lies when you sit in a doctors surgery with your child and hear her say she wishes she was dead because of bullying.
No song will solve the problem.
When you have to formally threaten the local education department with a writ for failure to keep your child safe, along with the Governors of the school responsible and teachers when she comes home pouring of blood becuase an 11 year old high on booze and drugs decides she did not like her because she was prettier than her and tried to take her eye out with a metal umbrella.
Until something is done at the core we will never stop bullying and I find songs as inane as this one cause more of a problem than they solve.
But thats just me others may have a different view and I respect that.
Each to their own
Steph wink

of course Steph - the song on its own wont do anything, and I'm disappointed in Marns comments that he wasnt aware that it's anti bullying week ( not a comment directed at you Marms - i mean in that there hasnt been much of a drive on it this year, and what is being done publicity wise on radio etc is not filtering through into the local community and onto the streets, where it is of course meant to be getting through to and where it's needed! )
On a good note - and without saying too much, because I cant without revealing my occupation & details that will identify me rolleyes - I have been heavily involved in an anti-bullying campaign locally, and we've had some really positive results - but, the only reason for success is the 1:1 input my team has had in working directly with these bullies & their victims. There;'s a whole host of reasons and behaviours that lie beneath someone's bullying behaviour, and more needs to be done to tackle that - before things escalate into physical incidents, like metal tipped umbrellas. Unfortunately, the resources, and more often than not, the understanding and parental input just isnt there to do this.
If anyone is interested in the project & its results, please PM me!

Seriously tho I applaud some councils for tackling it but its like sticking an elastoplast over an elephants arse if not done right.

You dont mind if I use that quote in my next team meeting do you?! - that just about sums it up in a one liner that will ensure the funding board at least switches on and listens to me! worship
The song itself though its bloody brilliant - on surface value, and what most people will hear, is pretty much Mike's perception - its a song about some bloke blocking the roads with his JBC from the view of a 5 year old.
When you dig into it (no pun intended rolleyes haha) a little more, its written by a guy about his memories of being young, his relationship with his dad (the hero, the guy he looks up to and protects him) , the sense of importance and power a kid feels because the JCB is a bloody big powerful machine, driven by his dad just increases this feeling more.
The bit about the 'sitting on the toolbox with me bum rattling' gets me every time - its a memory that sticks, like granny's apple pie or your grandad sitting by the fire telling you stories about the war. It stays with you - just as being victimised at school does.
oh bugger it, i'm gonna buy the single biggrin
Nickelodeon have been playing the video every night for a few weeks as well, my kids always shout me in to watch it and we all love it. Until I read this thread though, I had no idea that it was anything to do with an anti-bullying campaign confused It seems the promoters or whatever you call them aren't quite doing their job properly - which I find very sad sad
I'll buy the single though if it means there's a little bit of extra funding for them, they need all the help they can get
I must admit that tying the record in with the anti-bullying campaign is a very veryclever piece of marketing.
there's a but
before we all rush out and buy the single....
i'm not sure that the proceeds of the sale of this single are going to any anti-bullying charity. Need to check this!!
I'm not sure whether it was very clever on the part of the artist re the release timing, or wether its just coinidence, or if it was released for anti-bullying week and a percentage of sales is going to charity.
runs off to find out!
There is no mention on Nizlopi's official website that any portion of the money from the single is going to any anti-bullying charity, or any charity.
In addition, the group want everyone to hold off buying the single until December 12, so that they can be the Christmas number one - those are your orders! rolleyes

Actually Mike, i feel your twisting the facts here. The JCB song was written a long time ago, 2004 i believe, and is being re-released for Christmas due to its popularity on the internet recently. It wasnt written for or in conjunction with any anti-bullying campaign, so they cant be held responsible for other people now using the song for that purpose. IF (and i hope they do) Nizlopi, choose to donate any funds, that would be excellent  Also, they have not said to HOLD OFF buying this single until then, but only to buy it from that date as that is its re-release date.
Heres the original video for it

Also, I believe the boys will be on Richard and Judys show tomorrow night 5pm, channel 4.
xx

I concur! I've googled, been on the beat bullying & other agencies sites and On the Nizlopi site, and no where does it say that any proceeds from this single will be donated to charity. I'm actually stunned at this! a damn good opportunity missed.
As far as I'm aware though, it's never actually been marketed as a charity single - it was Angel Chat who made me think 'hang on a minute' ! (thankyou), so yes, one very very clever piece of marketing for it to coincide with anti-bullying week mad if it's not actually doing so for that purpose (did that make sense?)
Having said that, I'm still a fan of the song itself & its content, and my little one loves it - but I definately wont be buying it, I'll download for free!

Right, sorry for my misunderstanding. I agree with you - it would be good if they make a donation to such a good cause.
Mike.
Downloaded the album via itunes a while back. A very refreshing sound biggrin

Exactly my point - ANYTHING that would help needs to be financed if it is going to stamp it out but responsibility for the action has to come into the equation sometime.
On a positive note tho - my daughter when removed from the school in question and placed in one just over three miles away retook her year 9 and then went on to complete a GCSE in art in one year, left with all GCSEs passed and a couple of vocational qualifications to boot. She also took one of the new school regular truants under her wing and he left school with some GCSEs because she tutored him in a peer support way the teachers did not understand lol but it worked. She is now 20 working in a hospital as a Care Worker and is very very happy. She was supported.
I just feel sorry for the kids at her original school as every year I hear the same stories. A girl called her mother in the classroom on a mobile whilst she was being attacked by another girl (IN FRONT OF TEACHERS - who are powerless by law and regulations) This happened less than 24 hours ago during a lesson about BULLYING. Perhaps they should have been listening to the song
Seriously tho I applaud some councils for tackling it but its like sticking an elastoplast over an elephants arse if not done right.
Way to go Darkfire kiss
Steph.. Well done to you and your daughter!!!!, bet your very proud of her.
Just had to say that...
