Old Steam Room Stuff

I didn't disagree with the content of your post, I disagreed with the way you presented it. As posty said, some people see this kind of thing, not knowing the poster or their particular way style and use it as an excuse to either barate you or to post some really truely homophobic crap that hurts and really isn't in the spirit of an accepting online community.
I agree with homosexual issues that seeing the "out" police or military officer in a parade is good and might make it seem more normal to the "gay bashers" who can cause so much hurt and damage in real life situations every single day.
I also agree that to be comfy with your own sexuality you don't need to shout it from the rooftops, gay or not. The amount of straight guys I'veheard boasting about their conquests and how many girls they shagged last week is one example of hetrosexuality being forced upon people. However because this is deemed a society "norm" it's not noted as much.

But let's introduce into the argument the magazine thats 'Outs' gay people who clearly don't want to be 'outed' . wtf gives them the right to 'expose' someone as gay??. Who the fuck do they think they are!!!

This is a sepparate issue to celebrations such as parades and festivals. This is using information to corner someone and manipulate which in all cases I find low, sly, unfair and disrespectful regardless of the issues used.
I too live my own life very differently to the way I do on here. I am by no means an "out" female as I feel that if they are a friend they don't need to know who I am shagging and what goes in the bedroom stays in the bedroom. Agreed.
Press on the otherhand will print things that sell papers/mags and like it or not sex and scandals sell papers. Not a nice way but I hope in the future being "outed" will be met with a shrug of the shoulders and the comment "so fecking what, big deal"

wishy, I am actually offended. sad

er......... by me or by them having a special day????
The us and them attitude you're showing.

Now hold on a sec.... I'm displaying no 'us and them' attitude here.......... that's my point entirely........ it's THEM who creating this attitude by separating THEMselves from the rest of society....... I want them to be gay if that's what they want to be .. but integrate it into society and live like the rest of us........ and stop bleating on about it!
Go read a poem I posted on the poetry thread...... it's about homophobia in the days of Quentin Crisp...... when a man WAS beaten up for being openly gay ... those days are gone.... it is accepted in most places of the world now......I just wish they'd SHUT UP TALKING ABOUT IT.. your sex life is YOUR business!!!

Through out your posts you've refered to people who are gay as "them" "they" while I know this is the gramatical way to phrase things, the way it reads emphasises the words "them" and "they".
Light hearted or not.... poem or not.... the issue of people getting on with things is still up for discussion as many people don't mention they have a same sex partner for the fear of descrimiation.
So as you arogantly put it ....."those days are gone".... they are not gone at all, they are thinly veiled in a cloak of subtle pscyological torture and manipulation in the work place, in the street, sometimes in the media and occasionally in the home.
I do agree with your point about what goes on in your own sex life is your own business however putting it in capitals is really not helping me want to see your point.

but I still think that gay people should shut the fook up about their sexuality and get on with their lives....

Being gay is about more than having a cock up the shitter
(as you so put it, very crude IMHO)
Getting on with your life when you are gay is OK, if you are left to get on with it. Gay couples still have to fight for equal rights to heterosexual couples in terms of pensions, finances, marriage.
Prejudice is still you really think the days of public gay bashing are long back in the times of QC, you are a very ill informed person.
The celebration of being gay is more than just shouting out I like it up the shitter (to use your terminology once more). It celebrates both progress towards an exceptance and reminds people there is still someway to go.
One final point…
Don’t bother asking women if they are bi … if it is none of your business!
People openly talk and ask about sexuality on this forum. Your type of comments does nothing to encourage people to do so.

Actually Wishy, as gem says, "those days" are not gone at all. In fact, anti-gay violence is VERY serious, so much so that the state has acted on the problem in the Criminal Justice Act 2003. I quote from Stonewall's (a gay rights organisation) website:
"The Criminal Justice Act 2003........ensures that where an assault involving or was motivated by hostility or prejudice based on disability or sexual orientation (actual or perceived) the judge is required to:
>> Treat this as an aggravating factor
>> State in open court any extra elements of the sentence that they are giving for the aggravation."
Furthermore, Stonewall conducted a study about anti-gay violence in the mid 1990s. Again, I quote from their website -
"Queer Bashing, Stonewall's 1995 study of violence against lesbians and gay men in Britain, found that one in three gay men and one in four lesbians had experienced at least one violent attack during 1990-1995. Because of fear of becoming the victim of homophobic violence, 65% of respondents always or sometimes avoided telling people they were gay, and 59% of respondents always or sometimes tried to avoid looking obviously gay.
The problem is even worse for young lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. For those aged under 18, 48% of respondents had experienced violence, 61% had been harassed and an astonishing 90% had experienced verbal abuse because of their sexuality."
See here for more details
Now wishy, you might think that being a gay rights group Stonewall's figures might be biased, but independent Home Office studies have also found similar figures.... one Home Office study of anti-gay violence in Edinburgh in 2000 found alarming results, for example.
Trans people within society face even more violence, but as we are only talking about gay people here I will not impress you further by my (expert) knowledge on this subject.
More generally, and to go back to your original point of why gay people should have their own "day" --- I ask you, why shouldn't they? You say heterosexuals don't have their own "day" ---- well, as society in general is biased towards straight people they don't really need to. I mean, you would think nothing of walking down the street holding your girlfriends hand, would you? Two men who are in love with each other simply cannot afford that same kind of leisure in many parts of the UK. A friend of mine several years ago got hospitalised after a gang beating cos he was simply holding his boyfriends hand after a night out in Chorley. Not only was he beaten up so was his boyfriend, his (straight) brother and a (straight) mate just cos they were walking along side. Now, are you telling me that there is no such thing as anti-gay violence?
Yes, society, year by year is becoming more tolerant, but I'm sorry, gay people are still not equal in a lot of people's eyes. Gay and trans events are organised as a public display of solidarity, love, and defiance. Aside from that they are a bloody good excuse for a party! lol
You're entitled to your views wishy, but you are wrong.

no no no no NO
don't get me started ffs
pregnant women who smoke should have their kids taken off them, i know thats going 2 offend many women who have smoked while pregnant but how can you claim to love the child you have forced to smoke in its most critical stages of development? the harm that can be caused is known to all but they still do it

Pregnant women......i forgot about them........how dare they smoke while pregnant!!! :x
Well, wishie certainly started something here with his original post......
For me, being simple, I take a very simple approach....... We live in a country that prides itself on freedom of speach, thought, and action as long as these things are not illegal.
I have many interests, and SH and swinging is just one aspect of thse interests. If I felt for example, that because I enjoy certain sexual practices (such as swinging), I was being victimised in any way, I would want to shout from the rooftops that this is wrong, I would also suspect that a lot of like minded people would join me in this.
For me to be able to do the above, should the need ever arise, then I too have to be tolerant of other groups, be they social/sexual, ethnic or whatever. To put it simply, I enjoy freedom of speech, thought, and action, so therefor I have to defend the concept of these freedoms. So sorry Wish, I can't agree.

no need to shove it down everyone else's throat is there!!!!

in the interests of the post i will dodge the obvious irony.
wishy, im left wondering why it bothers you so much? do you have some kind of hatred for baloons, face paints and pastel colours?
im pretty sure that lgbt celebration days are set up as (although blue has it on the nose with a party) to celebrate the acheivements of people who have helped towards equal rights for the LGBT community. The world quickly forgets that homosexuality was still illgal in some places....eg the isle of man until 1992.
in the same way that women celebrate with international womens day celebrates the movement for equality for women over the last x amount of years i am happy to see that progress is gradually being made (although as gem/blue et al mention.....not everything is all balloons and pastel colours as mentioned above).
Also, and people may disagree with me here, but being a minority group can not be compared on an equal level to swingers (although in a minority, sterotyped and picked on) other minority groups have suffered less rights, abuse and murder......we should celebrate that this is slowly changing.
#gets down from the soap box
