Was watching the highlights of george bests funeral today and a commentator commented (as he would being a commentator) that the outpouring of national grief was likened only to that of Princess Diana????????????
what??
how could the death of george best (even if he was the best player to lace a pair of football boots up for fifty years) a man who wasted an astonishing talent and blew milions on the drink, whilst pickiling his own liver in the process, and getting a new one which he also decided to test the strain of against a few thousand gallon of lager, be compared to Princess Di?
anyway enough of my rant just got my back up and have been indoors all day injured and have subsequently not had a vent for my frustated opinions.
if any of besties family use the site (well you never know), sorry guys he may have been a great fella but he did waste his life and talent and cant be compared to a woman who unreservedly went above and beyond her call of duty to help millions of people in countries around the world.

It begins .............
even though I am an arguamentative sometimes (often) offensive troll of a poster , I have never had a thing censored from this site automatically or otherwise that wasn't obviously about the welfare of the site . Perhaps the whole debate about " standard practices" is just a bit of a tangent . The real point is whilst I agree that advertising of commercial sites is wrong on the forums as it would harm their structure - the sharing of sites that would be of interest to others and are completely free cannot be about the same things . You have to ask yourself how successful a community of people who are all about liberalism can be if it keeps its members by automatic censorship .
I have no axe to grind really it just another web site - its the people that matter - and I dont think its really right to treat them like possesions ( or indeed like numbers on a hit meter) . I say put your money ( and your code writing ) where your mouth is , have the courage of your 'convictions' and let the individuals decide . Swinging heaven never "poached" members - whatever that means- they attracted them through being an open and extremely well run and moderated site . If it remains what it was it has nothing to fear , and if it changes for the worse the members will go anyway .
Come on do the right thing .

Must disagree this time Silk n Big G... I fully understand the sites stand, they are concerned about people canvassing for another site, even a free one, using their services. I think this is fair, and anyone canvassing the for any other site (free or otherwise) that Mark was not happy with would no doubt be stopped.
I also think that this other site has no desire to poach members. This action actually protects them and people on there from any accusation of poaching members. This could be a useful thing, many people are members of far more than one swinging site anyway. (I think I am on 3 or 4 myself although I live in here) Last thing I want is anyone thinking I am only here to poach the sites membership or use their popularity for a bit of free advertising.
The filters on other sites addresses (and other words whatever they may be) does not stop me talking to my friends. I use phone, MSN, and indeed email for that anyway. It just ensures I am not accused of using the private PM system, which is free but still not mine to use for anything I want. Like the whole site I do so at the offer of the owners, whoever they may be.

I see your points MrTnH but to be honest it strikes me as a knee jerk reaction which does nothing for people's current perception of the site - there is no reason why as you say people cant actively use more than one site.
It makes the current owners appear worried that people would want to leave - which there should be no reason for provided everything they have said so far is true.

Your really just underlining my point TH . Sure they can do it , and they OWN the site bought and paid for so they have the perfect right to do it . When we come to motivation for doing it thats where the comparison to the previous site owner is a bit difficult .

Just out of curiousity can someone please give me an example of a censored word or phrase apart from the obvious (and before anyoine says anything I know it will get cescored before it gets on the board)

There's absolutely nothing new about message boards having a 'banned words' list. Nobody is reading your pm's or your e-mails or anything else that is private ..... nobody ever has for that matter.
Why on earth do you expect to be able to use this site's pm system to poach members to go elsewhere?

- and I will admit to finding flirting with you much more interesting. wink

However I would just like to point out that the URL's for none of the other top swinging sites are banned on here and you could send links to them by pm to your hearts content, the only swinging site that has had its name removed is the one that shall not be named.
If it was just to avoid mention of other sites I would have thought that other commercial ones would be blocked - otherwise someone who didn't know otherwise might think the management were concerned. (Not me obviously as I am not that cynical. :twisted: )

So to summarise the debate:
swingswing has now been added to the list of words filtered out by the autoscript system. A system which has been in place happily blocking the promotion of other sites, both commercial and free, since the day the site was opened.
But there are now people who want to change this accepted practice, and allow the promotion of other sites.

I am struggling to see how that will benefit the members of Swinging Heaven myself.

I have no doubt that as this site will rely on a database to work -so anyone with access to that database (i.e. programmers, etc) will be able to see all your posts, PM's and personal details including the IP address you access from.
I run a simple forum on a site elsewhere (nothing to do with swinging) and I can look through the database if I'm so inclined...

Although I am sure there are legal implications of doing so... I am sure our site owners would not dream of invading peoples privacy on a whim. Automatic update scripts of the sort in use in my view do not infringe privacy as no one is reading the private comms.
p.s. I spent most of today getting the board software that SH is based on installed locally on my PC. Mainly out of interest as to what is in the back end. The feature to ban certain words is part of the underlying software, so no snooping was needed.
Here is the text from the admin page:
Word Censoring
From this control panel you can add, edit, and remove words that will be automatically censored on your forums. In addition people will not be allowed to register with usernames containing these words. Wildcards (*) are accepted in the word field. For example, *test* will match detestable, test* would match testing, *test would match detest.
