One year on .....

Different sort of anniversary this one ....
Haven't been around much as for some reason we gained real lives and work and uni take precedent lately, but we do still pop in and chat to people and hope to get back to being regulars very soon.
However, I can't let this anniversary pass without saying a big thanks to all the people who have supported us, held us up and helped keep life on track this last year.
Today is the anniversary of our daughter being diagnosed with leukaemia. It's been one whole year and we have about 18 months left to go. A few people have pm'd recently or collared me on msn asking for an update, so I hope you don't mind me doing it all in one go.
She is very well, the cancer is in remission after a very long and unusual fight by the docs. Her hair is growing back wonderfully and to look at her you would never know that she almost lost her life last xmas.
We've had, in the words of the Queen, our annus horribilus with the death of a close relative, major construction on our home resulting in us having to move twice, virtual bankruptcy due to the wonderful benefits system, more health scares, changing jobs and university woes. It's been a tough one and we're still smiling ........ just wink

There's a group of people on here that have stood by us and have made such a major difference to our lives, in one way or another, that we just don't know how to repay them, our thanks seem poor but it's all we can offer. Some of them don't know how they've helped, some do, I won't name them in case they don't want to be, but they can feel free to name themselves.

It makes you wonder how people who have their health can whinge about their lives when you read of this kind of ongoing battle. Fair play to you guys for keeping it together and remaining upbeat and positive, I wouldn't at all surprised if you said that it didn't seem that way in the really dark days but you're still here and it's all coming right for you again.

Calista and morbius, i've not spoken to you before but felt i had to post to offer your family my best wishes for the future after what must have been the year from hell for all of you. Lets hope that it is all behind you, and i pray that the next 12 months and beyond will be more settled and happy for your family. Best regards to you all. smile

Good on you Calista and your family. It's not easy to keep smiling after all that you have been through.

Well Done, good to hear health wise things are on the up and they are the most important things, but i know just how stressful it was for you all to have to move. esp at a time when you need your home to be your safe haven and sanctuary....

that means you've survived.
You now know what ever life throws at you, you will get through it together and that in my opinion is the most important thing.
If things ever look tough and you don't think you can cope, look back on this year and remember how you coped.

it seems that when i read things like your post i really only then take stock of how lucky myself and rach are and how trivial my little problems (bad day at work,large electric bill etc) really are!!
i have not heard from you guys before and was not aware of your daughters battle but having had a cousin (many years ago now) unfortunately loose her battle with leukaemia at a young age and seeing the effect it had on my uncle and aunt, i can only wish you the best and say i am very glad to hear that your daughter is getting better biggrin

remain strong and keep smiling, from your post you seem like a well balanced couple and our hopes for further progress with remission are with you via the information super - highway.

I am so pleased to hear that your daughter is doing well.
You are a lovely couple and greatly missed on here, however real life has to come first.
You two have had an awful time in the last year, yet you have always remained positive in your outlokk. This is a lesson in life that many should take heed of.
