OT: CVs - do you update regularly?

I used to work in the recruitment industry, and as a result was used to looking at and writing CVs on a daily basis for clients and candidates.
I have always been pretty good at updating my CV. I used to do it on average about twice a year with info about new responsibility I had taken on or courses etc I'd been on. Having been in a job I am lucky enough to love for a couple of years now, it's made me realise that I have become somewhat complacent and I haven't seen the need to update my CV for ages!
Do you have a current CV? Do you update it regularly or does it only see the light of day when you are applying for a job?
I just wondered if I maybe have CV OCD, because I have just spent a happy couple of hours ensuring mine is all up-to-date again. :lol2:
Good grief no! lol
I've had to do mine recently as I've applied for a new job. It's dull. I hate it, it bores me just looking at it so I have no idea why anyone would employ me off the back of it.
One of my mates in recruitment just sent me a sample CV that looks way better so I'm changing mine to look the same. It's a vast improvement on mine! redface
redface I must be a CV-geek then!
Still, I have found it very therapeutic this evening! And it was flippin' hard remembering all the courses I'd been on and conferences etc so bloody good job I haven't left it any longer!
You can always tell when I'm really pissed off at work - my CV gets updated on a daily basis. LOL

Ahhh, that would be the equivalent of my folder of resignation letters sat on my computer. They are great. I used to rattle one off to vent my spleen and then save it and not send! :lol2: Reading them now I can pinpoint the moments that caused the outburst. They are funny.
I should know better, being in recruitment myself, but I don't even know where my CV is. I'd have a tough time remembering dates and roles now too
I've been at my current company for 4 and a half years now and am part of the furniture. I open and close the office, recruit the staff, live in the bosses house.....so unless we go under (quite possible in the current climate) I think i'm safe.
I really should dig it out tho and update it.
*Her*
It's good to update it - spelling out your experiences, training and abilities. Strengths and ambitions as well. Is very healthy. Especially if someone who knows you helps.
I've not long had a personal development profile done and that has definitely helped pinpoint strengths & weaknesses. Really useful in writing the CV
I work in Telly type stuff so i have both a CV to keep up to date and a production history. Thats kinda the easy bit as it then has to end up on numerous different sites so people know what i do and where i do it....this is the bit i'm not so good at which is a shame as i've done some really good jobs in the last few months.
I also have different CV's for different parts of my job, so one might be biased towards camera work, another towards directing and project management. It's a bit of a pain in the arse really but has to be done, and if i decide to redesign it in any way they all end up being redone. Oh Joy! lol
I always *intend* to keep my CV up to date, but never seem to manage it. In practice what happens is that when I reach the 'actively looking to change job' stage I dig out the old one, spend an hour adding in new stuff and knocking out/shortening older bits. Then whatever stage it reaches it stays like that again. I'm sure doing it that way doesn't do me any favours (I'm in a pretty high-competition area of the job market at the best of times) but I'm a bit at a loss as to anything that would motivate me to do any better <shrug>
Just my 2p
Sadly, I do not have much to put into a CV, so I am sure mine would always be among the last to be considered.
So it defeats me before I even do anything with it.

Nah, you should send it me - I'll sort it! wink
But then if I did that, you would find out that me telling you that I am a 27 year old nuclear physicist who served 7 years in the SAS was a lie, and I was so sure I had you hooked on that particular bait!
But thank you, you will be my first port of call.

you have just reminded me of something fgs i am an airhead sometimes, incoming email xxx
I update mine regularly. I use it to remind me what briliant things I have done. Otherwise I wouldn't remember.
In my line of work CV's are not as important as word of mouth and who you know!
And in any case, at my age who looks at CV's??!! When I was made redundant three years ago, they offered me outplacement ................. I laughed, they saw the funny side and increased redundancy offer by £5,000biggrin
I've always reviewed and re-worked the last one whenever I've needed to start putting out CVs - only ever took 10 -15 mins each time and never had a problem getting a job.
However, having "retired" 8 years ago (I now just do a bit of odd jobbing), I'm actively looking for a part time job, given my CV a thorough review, but there seems to be precious little about, and I'm not getting any interviews. Heigh ho, partly my age I guess, partly the fact I've been out of the job market for 8 years, partly because I want a fairly easy low stress part time job for which there's loads of competition.
I used to update mine regularly but since uni and being self employed it's probably not been updated half as much as it used too.
I probably update my LinkedIn account, a huge amount more now though.
C
must admit to not updating mine but do have to fill in my cpd file on a regular basis
