Morning all
Knowing that we have some very knowledgeable people on this site, I was just wondering if anyone on here has ever had / heard of / knows about a condition called Bell’s Palsy?
Particularly the recovery rate and any long lasting after effects?
Thanks guys
Pete wave
Not too sure on the specifics but I do know that a world superbike rider called Chris Walker suffered Bells Palsy and it affected the side of his face quite badly but he has made upto yet a significant recovery and still continues to race competitively...
Thanks guys
Phoenix, brilliant, just what I was looking for
cheers
There is a user on here who has had it, but I'll not mention any names and wait to see if they wish to post their views.
Don't know much about it but a friend of mine had it, and it can be quite worrying that not all function will come back - I think it's something like 80% of people recover fully from a bout of it.
Sounds dreadful to me.....

I had it about 3 years ago, and no its not nice, woke up one morning to find i had lost all the feeling / use of the right side of my face, I thought I'd had a stroke evil was pretty scary at the time
Anyway, was diagnosed and the eyepatch is because your eye cant blink, so you have to keep it shut or the eyeball dries out (blek) I looked like a cross between the Phantom of the Opera and Captain Hook.
Anyway, the condition cleared up after a while, but I still get severe pains down the right side of my face sometimes and was just wondering if anyone knew if this was normal.
Thanks to Pheonix I am hoping to get an answer off another forum.
Thank you all for your comments though,
xx

Don’t worry, i burst into fits of giggles every time I looked in the mirror, well half giggles anyway lol.
But on a more serious note, having read some of the posts on a related site, where some poor guy has suffered for over 30 years
no wonder he's all fecked up. I was totally ready to jump in the river after just a few months of this, so god knows how that poor guy must feel, quite heart rending to read actually.
Oh hum, life? It really can be a bitch, but then I guess it does have its Ups and Downs
Thanks to all who contributed to the thread

Mate of mine had it back when we were in our 20' all had bikes back then and the doc told him it was probably due to the winter wind on his face ( he had an open face helmet and no scarf) He totally recovered after maybe 5 weeks or so.
Having said that a friend of my mother had it in her 50's and she wasnt a biker smile She recovered after about the same time but only about 90% but you wouldnt really notice unless you knew that she had suffered from it.
As to what princess said about it being funny :) I know its not funny for the sufferer at the time, but when my mate had it, we were falling about in a night club! and to make it worse we would make him laugh, making the paralysis stand out even more

I get severe pain down the right side of my face. Thanfully not too often!! but that is down to neuralgia. Luckily it lasts no longer than around 30 mins but it is absolute agony. Some people get it continually!! If your teeth feel numb when you get the pain then it could be neuralgia!! Most of the pain i get is around the temple area!! Its something to do with the trigeminal nerve if i remember rightl rolleyes

Ahh, now we're getting somewhere,
see i get that all the time, but instead of the teeth getting numb, they get hypersensitive, the lower right jaw feels like it's just been kicked by Johnny Wilkinson, and i have a line of pain that starts about 6 inches above the right eyebrow deep into the scalp, follows the line through the eyebrow, through the back of the eye, and down into the jaw and neck, ..... the pain is not bone breakingly intense by any means, its more like an incessant tooth ache that just wont go away .........
It does get better and it does get worse, depending on all kinds of factors. But sometimes, living with an eternal, never ending, grinding pain can make a person a bit grouchy lol……
So…. Read the tag line. ….. I REALLY am just this guy u know? …………………..

I know exactly how you feel, I have been suffering on and off with chest muscle pains and abdominal pains for the past 2.5 years. Hopefully they are now cured or at least being managed.
With marriage breakdown, divorce and the constant pain, the initiative to live just went away.
