Hi peeps and thanks for taking the time.
Could anyone recommend a site that actually "really" scans your machine for spy ware, without trying to sell you a product, Zone Alarm used to do it years ago, but they have gone all commercial now. Seems that the creator finally forgot the ethics that he BLAAAAAAHED on about in the beginning and sold out to the highest bidder, and who can blame him.
you could always try Win Patrol...I think i saw a full version on computer shopper this month...
the best and easiest to use anti spyware tool I know of is SUSE linux 9.2. no spyware, ever. AND it has frozen bubble!!
Hi,
You could try something like
Ad-Aware SE
Spybot 1.3
HTH
Kitty xx

hope that helps..
Probably going to get a bit toasty on this one, but the beta of the new Microsoft anti-spyware tool is surprisingly effective.
I know, I was  too. Microsoft actually releasing software that works...
Then I remembered... Microsoft pulled a Victor Kayam. They liked it so much, they bought the company...
Spybot and Adware SE are pretty good but generally the thing about any adware cleaner is that it will not do the whole job and there is also a ned to be proportionate ie don't nuke the place when all you need is a little bleach.
There's a site called (which is a forum so sorry if this contravenes the AUP - any mods??) which takes you through a proportionate stepped approach with a variety of Adware tools before inviting you to post any residual problems.
Seems very well set up to a non-tecchy like me.
Good luck

i have beta which i downloaded from m/soft and i think its the best it tells you which spyware are critical for your computer, you have to remember not all spywares bad.

Not all spyware is bad? Eh I can't think of any good spyware?
I get no spyware in my PC because I have installed a little program called IE-Spyadwhich adds a long list of known advertisers, marketers, and spyware pushers to the restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. It's free and it works, because every time I run Ad-aware and/or Spy-bot they find nothing. When you think about it , it's better to stop stuff getting in than deleting after it's got in! You can get it from this address and it's free.
A really useful site that I have found is at this address
I'm running XP + SP2 using XP's firewall and Norton Systemworks 2005.
Good luck! biggrin
Please don't rely on Spybot and Adware - they aren't 100% fool proof.
This used to be quite a good virus / spyware checker
Not sure about it now - haven't used it for a while.
Also Panda (i think used to do a free 30 day download - very good)
I'll have a look for more - theres loads knocking about.
Personally the best thing anyone could do is to use Firefox as their browser - IE has too many programming faults that are easy for exploit. IE is getting better but not quite there
