 yeah I know that’s what I thought, WTF is that all about dunno I thought.
Then found this clip and suddenly realised I used to do this all the time. Just wasn’t aware that it had a name or that it was such a popular pastime.
I found the clip very evocative and well put together and was heartened by the young chaps attitude and respect for the subject.
If you read the comments there may be a small prize for spotting the prize namby pamby wanna wrap the world in cotton wool TWAT rolleyes there’s always one.
This use to be so cool as a kid we had lots of abandoned build were i us to live including a couple of air raid shelters ect
ps spotted the namby pamby git as well lol
I know, where I was brought up we had loads of stuff like this, granted you had to know where to find it as most of it was hidden in the forest but we had old munitions factories, bunker systems, silver mines, prison camps the whole nine yards, was terrific fun for a youngster, dangerous as hell but what an education.
The last time I went UEing was about 12 years ago shortly after they closed our local mental institution, it was one of the biggest in the south and a very spooky experience as there was so much stuff left in situe .
Quite humbling in many ways as it did bring some quite graphic mind pictures as to the sort of things the poor people in there had to go through.. It was opened in 1851 so you can imagine the atmosphere, long corridors, rooms off at every angle, lots of offshoots and swing doors and those horrible green walls :scared:
I’d forgotten how much fun it was, just thought I’d share dunno
I loved watching this..... I once got arrrested redface with a few others looking around an old brewery when I was about 16...it was good, I got to sit on a policemans knee cos there were no seats vacant in the van(that wouldnt happen these days lol)
In Malta they had a whole ex services village that was deserted, was great having a look around. An in London, theres loads of places... had some fun times wondering around old buildings.
Pete, these guys have a website with loads of info on the old buildings that were institutions.. they give all the locations, how to get there, what its like an some pics etc.
One group found loads of personal information left in filing cabinets... and few medical instruments used in the mental institutions.

It amazing that as kids we had no fears and would do stuff like this, we had all sorts of castles and underground buildings.
We could never really see the dangers of going in
i would do it again but some how i dont think i would be able to out runner a snail let alone a copper or some security guard
I'm with you guys on this... in days of old, wishing I still did, I used to get into old buildings/facilities etc... always had a fantastic atmosphere... and of course, there was the element of illigality that added to the fun as a youngster.
However, I would still love to do this now...
there are still >though going fast< so many places with atmosphere and history to explore.
I've been in many in my college years, using youthfull bravado and a college camera as courage and excuse if caught... fantastic.

Fantastic - we as kids did this sort of stuff day in day out throughout the school holidays, Thinking about it, not many of the kids we hung around with didn't. Old hospital and an airfield with all its nissan huts and air raid shelters/bombstores, were our old haunts. Oh and an old gas works!
We used to scare the lives out of each other but have the best of times doing it. Blimey I sort of shudder now thinking what we used to do. I can even remember finding a store of old old railway track warning caps. Blimey we were lucky we didn't blow ourselves to bloody hell and back.
Amazingly evocative piece of film Pete loved it.
