I think you're absolutely right there!
Also a lot of peoples posts look like they're being ignored. I've written things many a time that I thought was really valid or bluddy hilarious ......... and they've had absolutely no response whatsoever. Yet other times, I will quickly add to a thread, think it's a crap post and it does get a response.
The point, which I'm doing a really crap job of getting over, got a cold, feeling like shite and sticking to that excuse cool

, is that not all posts get an individual response, most of them don't. But saying that, points do get taken on board and absorbed. Threads take a turn which sometimes you can't relate to, so you wander away from.
Feel for the new people, it's even harder for them because people don't know their personalities either, often they put posts up explaining how difficult it is.
Always post with the attitude that it will probably be read and not responded to, then the occasions people do pick up on something are a nice surprise. It shouldn't be expected, otherwise people will feel despondant!
Shit, none of that makes sense does it? :confused: even I'm having problems working out what I meant! :undecided:

I think the fact you sometimes get ignored makes this community a little closer to real life and a little further away from cyberspace... which perhaps is a testiment to its strength as a community.
Real life is just the same... some days nobody listens to a word you say... nobody see's you in the supermarket and you feel alll a bit crap.... then other days people do nothing but chat to you... and girls try and chat you up in the bank!!! biggrin

We can understand how you feel, though we have been on the site for a while we only fairly recently joined the forum and are not the biggest posters. We dont reply to many threads or even start them as we feel unless you have been to a munch and people have met you that you are under suspision for being fake or a timewaster, or people just seem to know each other so well and they dont know you so they chat amongst themselves. We hardly ever have pm's in our box as people just dont know us but are hoping that is going to change after the Notts munch.
We're just shy!

The other day I was following a particular thread, wasn`t able to post on it, not because I thought I wouldn`t be welcome, but because I would have been hard pushed to keep up with the quality of the banter going on. The thread was dominated by two or three people, I was following it because it was as funny as hell. What did strike me as even funnier (cos I`m cruel like this) is one of the more outrageous members here was posting really amusing lines but two of the members were simply quoting each other, overlooking the other member. This went completely unnoticed by said `die hard` who simply kept posting his uttershite wink

regardless.
Conclusion;
None really, just an observation I found funny on all accounts, I enjoyed the banter by the two, the banter by the one, and even though I didn`t feel I could get a foot in, I enjoyed the thread regardless, but then I`m really thick-skinned like that!
Clare, no worries whether the thread was taken as intended, peope here will respond to it in a way which is close to them, and I don`t think anyone would resent you two for your honesty, it`s not as though you`ve `attacked` anyone.
When push comes to shove, I think most here rally around when it`s needed.

... though, I think some threads move at such a pace that by the time you've posted what you want to say, several other posts will have gone in after yours so people miss out on replying directly to you ... I'm ok with that but I do get mildly pissed off when I see one of my top class jokes fall by the wayside mad

Clare,
your post arouses several thoughts and emotions(as per usual some would say?).
Firstly, to newbies like us, a strange relief that even the accomplished and accepted feel insecurities (sorry if you disagree with the choice of wording )
Its only a relief because you two ARE among the more popular members..we cant ALL be wrong.
Personally I think I know my limitations. Some threads I am happier to sit back and admire as I could not hope to reach the intellect levels (so thats most threads, ha ha), particularly as my forte is smut and pathetic jokes..
I do think intellect is different to intelligence , ALL of the regular posters, including yourselves ,have a higher intelligence level than the average person out there. You are highly regarded on here.
Already on this thread we can see just how many people feel the same way.
I rarely have anything I would regard as remotely interesting to add. We`ve only posted on and off since June but have no idea how we are or will be viewed. Ive knocked up a dodgy poem but Ive no idea if its any good...I `ll treat no news as good news, I have to!

Mrs Fox wont post ( I hope/think that will change particularly after Oct 30th) as she too has the same insecurities. Having said that if any of my posts appear to flirt with thoughtfulness or threaten to be interesting its normally her input.
Moral? Dont know, maybe you have just put your head above the parapet and actually VOICED what many people FEAR but do not voice. Which almost by definition means your fears may be unfounded or no different the majority on here.
And no your post doesnt contain any attention seeking or pity.....just frustration which possibly isnt warranted?

Okay, let me say something. You've racked up almost 3000 posts between you. It would be a miracle if nothing you had posted had gotten very unfairly overlooked. I think there is some truth in what Clare and Steve are saying. Not necessarily in their case but generally. I wouldn't call it an in-crowd though because that makes it sound organised which I'm sure it ain't.
There are quite a few people, in fact most, who will make judgements about who they read and to whom they will respond. When I come on the site I will look for last posts by friends and people who I think are funny - tell me you don't. There is also another factor and that is the speed of posting nowadays - it is faster. This can result in a number of results. Sometimes you'll post something meaningful and hilarious and someone else is tapping away at the same time and presses SUBMIT half a second after you. Your post then lost to at least half its potential audience - TOUGH! Another manifestation is the the fact that there is consequently so much more to read people become selective - C'EST LA VIE!

FWIW, I've never been to a munch, or met so much as a soul who posts here, and I'm a huge timewaster.

Hey guys don't panic about starting the thread, I think I can see where you coming from, I personally make it my goal in life here to get quoted, and get a real buzz that something I said affected someone else enough to make them want to respond to my view.
However there is sometimes a niggling feeling in some threads of hey up, was I here? It's not reality, in reality it rare to say something at a bar and everyone to talk over you. It doesn't happen much, I don't think it is intended, in fact in such a occasionally fast paced board a post could generally be missed by 2 or 3 posters going at pace.
Anyway ramble over, just to echo some of the others, I for one like the contribution you bring to the board a lot, so don't feel left out cause a lot of us (even those on edges like myself) think a lot of you.
Finally can I second that desire to come over Venus? :twisted: Don't worry Venus you quite safe from me really (unfortunately) hehe...

Wow, that could have been me writing that, I've had exactly the same feeling - I've just got so used to being ignored that I nearly fall off my chair when someone reacts to my post.

Well, I've been to four munches (five by tomorrow), and it doesn't mean that anyone takes much notice of me! I'm not complaining though, it's better in some ways to be on the fringe of things, and like Steve_G, I belong to the Groucho Marx school of thought on this. lol

Just need to say that I have no idea who the in crowd is :shock: :shock: :shock: what I do know is that often have no responses to my posts but have never ever thought that means I am not welcome in here. Some posts I put would never be of enough interest to warrant a reply. Unless you can give examples I really dont know who you mean!!!!!!!!! But what would be the point anyway? In real pubs I get ignored and in here I get ignored but neither mean that I think I am in some way someone worth ignoring :shock: :shock: I also believe in here many many of the regular posters have had conversations in here which could have been carried out in pm. But you know we can all get carried away with banter. .......................................
I have pms sometimes loads then none for a week but I havent sent any out myself for a while either because I have been so busy.
Think this is always worth looking at but I always remind myself that we can all get a bit carried away with emotional feelings about this site and thats okay smile

Clair and Steve something must have troubled you and that is a shame as you are putting a lot of effort into the munch. I think Steveg can tell you how organising a munch can be rewarding but also a lonley game as everyone leaves it to you to do!!!!!!!!!! There are quite a few people, in fact most, who will make judgements about who they read and to whom they will respond.

I do this. Every-so-often a new face will appear on a thread whose personality catches my eye, and I`ll start following their posts too. The rate of new faces and new threads going past is phenominal on here, and frankly I don`t bother with them all because I`m just not that bored!
I don`t always welcome new members either, as I used to run a site and that was one of my jobs there, so it doesn`t feel like part of the fun to me, one or two introductions catch my eye, but eventually I will normally respond to another member at some point in my posting, simply because our paths cross! Some become my friends, some don`t, just like life.
I don`t go out of my way to settle new faces, but I don`t go out of my way to seem clique either. I just do my thing.

Like Roger, I have neither been to a munch or met any of you.
Your input to this site is invaluable, without you and steve this site would a poorer place.
I like many other people, think that I also am a thread killer.
I sometimes get miffed when I make a post and no one posts after me or replies to the post at all. :cry:
I just shrug it off and get on with more posts of utter bollox. :shock:
There are a lot of people here who make me laugh, both you and steve included.
So in essence((tune)see I did'nt forget you). Keep your input as silly as you like, or as serious as you like.
