Wow! Some stunning photos here. Not sure I would venture any of mine in the face such beauties.
There are one or two people hereabouts with 'the eye'. That is such a talent.
A lot of mine look like police evidence rolleyes .
Do you think the 'eye' can be learnt? I do so hope so.
P'raps I'll just stick to trying to get the focus right first!
.

Choon, for starters try imagining the eyepiece as a picture frame. Shift around until you get the composition right.....would it look good in a frame on the wall?
Look at things with that in mind & you'll find all sorts of photo opportunities present themselves to you.
Although whilst lying in the middle of the roadin Whitby I did get some strange looks! lol
I've heard that going down is good.
Thanks fer the tips.

Very good advice. And while you're doing that, look at everything that's in the frame, not just the subject. It's amazing how much you don't normally notice. Once the photo is taken, everything in the frame becomes part of it, so it's important that it all works together.

Unusual viewpoints are often good.
And I'll add: look at lots of other people's photos. For the ones you like, ask why you like them. What is it about them that attracts and keeps your attention? And for the ones you don't like, what would you improve?
Also, look for photos all the time, even when you don't have a camera. It's good practice.
Here's another I took down west some time ago.

Sorry about the size redface

Fab, choon! Love running water....if you get my drift redface
I'm not fully au fait with with my f-stops and my aperture or shutter priority. But the one thing I will take ages over is composition of the shot.
I'll wander around for ages to get a 'perfect shot' and use a bean bag and my new Gorillapod to get different angles and views...I've been known to do that cheesy framing with my fingers nonsense. surprisedops:
Having said that....to check out your composition, try comparing it against the golden rules, either rule of thirds, triangles, rectangles or spiral, to see how you've done on the 'ideal' composition.

Go to the tools section to try your pic against the 'rules.'
You'd be amazed how many of these shots that you thought were pretty impressive but are more than that...they are absolutely BANG ON the perfect composition, according to maths!

That's a great link - thanks. I'd heard about the rule of thirds before but the way some people describe it it comes out as an exact third i.e. 1:2 ratio, which to my eye is unconvincing - so I was not taken by it. But when you view it as 1:1.6 then it assumes that edge - it seems to have attitude. The spiral is dead sexy too - can see that in your rose.(If you'll pardon the expression!)
I can see now how I might improve my two photos above - I hope I 've still got the originals to re-crop.

See if this site helps at all

There's a good beginners guide and a camera simulator which might help as well.

The eye colour is dead genuine. If I'd thought we could sneak him through customs, he and his little sidekick would be resident in Yorkshire right now.
Im no david bailey but heres some of my efforts.
About the only thing I can photograph consistently well is my finger over the lens! confused
If anyone's interested, you can download a little tool for XP which allows you to resize an image from your right-click menu. It's one of the XP Powertoys ;-)

'Ere you not one of those types that travel about the country seeking out free barbies every week are ya? :giggle:
.
Couple of shots take over the last couple of days.. not amazing as they were only 2mp camera phone jobbies.
I think I'd say they are amazing for that type of camera.
.
Stupidest sign you've ever seen?
Hang on a mo Tomu, I'm sure I've seen those shots somewhere before :lol2:
And ta Choon
Fucking hell you're quick. They were only there two minutes.
