... how do I view my own photos full size once they're uploaded - I only get a thumbnail view?

Click on My profile over there >>>>
Then click on the View Profile bit and Photographs
You can view them full size that way.
(Someone will no doubt be along to tell you a different way, but that's how I'd do it.)

Thanks but doesn't seem to work on photos marked private ... tells me I have no pics and won't let me view my own pics either?
(can only view them if I click on 'edit pic' which is a bit of a kooky way of doing it to me)

Oh I just did it and it allowed me to invite myself - strange way of having to look at your own pics though

Yes i thought it was strange that you have to view your own pics thru your profile if you wish to see them full size, but i can`t find any other way either

The easiest way is to send yourself an invite to your private gallery and it does allow you to do this, so not sure why you are getting the error messages you mention.
The other way, is the one you mentioned, via 'My Profile' and clicking on the My Photos tab along the top.
If you are still getting the error message then it may be worth logging off and logging back in wink
