Following on from a post in the steam room i would just like to ask that everyone is extra careful at this time of year..
Houses are even more at risk as burglars know they are stuffed full of prezzies as well as the usual targets of tv...dvd....pc etc...
If you see any strangers hanging around the area dont be afraid to report it to the authorities..
Get a name of who you speak to and note it along with the time..
Take a desecription of anyone you see hanging around in case the worst comes to the worst...
can just add to what Mallock has said get in touch with your local police and find out who your local PCSO is and get there mobile as it available 24hrs and they are more likely to pass it on to the local bobbies

 busted again...
 Mall
May I add please be aware of pickpockets & handbag thieves in crowded places!
Scary I know but gangs have been known jostle the victim & then cut the straps evil
It's pants out there!
Just seen a window cleaner hanging around, ladder an all!
Better go and check all me windows are locked. Had to open the windows, got a bit steamy in here last night :giggle:
Thanks Mallock kiss Merry Xmas

Good Post Mallock
Having worked for some considerable time with people who ply the burglary trade, here’s a tip I picked up along the way.
place a couple of large dog bowls, and spread some 'big' bones around your garden. add a ' BEWARE OF THE DOG' sign on your front gate, door whatever.
every house breaker i have ever had the displeasure to converse with has told me that whenever they do the rounds looking for likely targets, any sign of a dog on the premises and they avoid it like the plague. Unless they are targeting the place because they know there is something specific in there they really want.
Its not 100% foolproof, but it really does cut down the odds on being burgled.

We once had a young lad climb over our back garden wall. He is well known in our local area for helping himself to other people's property confused
What he didn't reckon on was one of our dogs being in the garden. Standing at a mighty five inches high, 10 inches long and with a total body weight of around 6lbs, he dashed to the bottom of the garden, barking for all he was worth (about £450 actually :lol2smile and the lad soon shot back over the wall and raced away like a scolded kitten
Doesn't have to be signs of a big dog necessarily, the suggestion of any dog would probably work as well ;-)
TJ
It's more the noise they make that scares them off TJ but those little beggars do have some balls I'll say that :giggle:
I go to a lot of homes with work and see all kinds of security devices but the best one had to be the doorbell that rang then sounded like a very big dog barking. Scared the bejasus out of me the first time I called there even though I'm ok around big dogs. Pissed myself laughing when I realised the only animals in the house were a timid ancient cat and a budgie rotflmao
It always worries me this time of year more than any other as my home is often unoccupied at night if I'm working and son is staying away. I have time controlled switches on lamps that go on and off at night to make it look like someone's home. There again, these arseholes are breaking into people's homes as much in the daytime these days as they know people are at work. I guess that's one advantage to working shifts, no one can tell when I'm going to be there or not.
Alternatively
Don't do any housework. That way potential burglars will think you've already been robbed and won't bother.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. redface
On a serious side, I know people who've had to go through this and my heart goes out to anyone this has happened to. kiss
I was nearly broken into a few weeks ago mad they broke a window and crow barred my french windows, My daughter was in and saw them and they left without taking anything. She was very shook up. This must be the 4/5th time its happened to me now butI know why this time.
I put my bin out one day early as I was going to be away that night. Someone must have been driving around and saw the bin out and took a chance. I will never do that again. Just didnt think. rolleyes
Good post. Its so important to not give them the opportunity. Keep curtains closed !!!! I like the dog idea of bowls and bones.
Stay safe
When going on holiday people always seem to want to leave their property neat and tidy, but I always leave pots on the sink--it looks like somebody hasnt gone far away and will be back soon.

do you use the same excuse for your knickers rolleyes
Not just the Burglars you need worry about, we had a walk in Burglary a year back!
2am in the Morning I was out with friends mrs mdr thinking I had no keys with me left the door unlocked and was reading in bed.. I came home and noticed a few things had been moved inc my keys to the car and mrs mdr's bike.. They had helped themselves to an iPod and a few other bits and Handbags and the like....
Now we have cctv records 24/7 and saves to the net as well as a hard drive so it took about 15 mins for the police to see who it was.. Sad thing is even though they could see them come to the house and leave again 4 mins later (Yes 4 mins lol) They could not arrest them based on that alone, they can use excuses like we were asking to use the toilet or they were told there was a party here etc.... I know lol no need to say a word.
The really really sad part of all this is although they knew who it was and had them what we thought bang to rights they set up another covert camera etc to catch them coming back for the car (they failed to get it on the night as they could not figure out the key lol) When they did (Codes all changed so couldn't start by now) they nicked em but legal red tape saw them bailed one Thursday (Missing Signature on a statement!!) the following Saturday they Killed a fella for a Phone and £20...... How sad and How scary! They ended up with 5 years for our robbery and Life for the murder.
This is 100% True so be warned...... Even if in Lock your bloody doors!
