I don't think you need to ask permission before PM-ing someone in the forum - although obviously be polite and don't send them something you know they won't want to receive.
ooo ive pm'd before and not asked permission
but never been told off yet
mind you mine were general advice stuff......and thats my story and im sticking to it.....
ChairmanMiaow, hey!
well i can honestly say that most pm's are always very welcome!!! so long as they don't ask in a crude, crass way for a shag ((( i should be so damn lucky )))
or tell you that you're an absolute, sad, fecking twat for deciding, say for instance, to become an op in a chatroom not a million miles away!!! :lol2: but you learn to shake that sorta thing off quite quickly! :P

My impression (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just a newbie!) was that uninvited PMs were banned in chat mainly because they mess with the java browser.
As useful side-effect of the ban is that it doubles as good way to quickly filter out people who can't follow rules and have them kicked, which doesn't really apply to the forums.
I've had quite a few uninvited PMs here and in chat, and I've not been offended by any of them, simply because they were nice polite (and occasionally very attractive sounding) people who I would have said yes to if they had asked for permission to PM, and who were new enough not to know the ropes - but then again I don't use the java chat, so I can cope with many threads of conversation at once.
If anyone wants to PM me here or in chat, please do so.
Maybe it's one of those 'single men' things and I'd feel differently about it if I was female / a couple and therfore getting pestered more often?
