Political Question-Serious question

This may not be here long as it is off topic............and mods....if it is kicked or locked......no probs.
Can someone tell me, how does our election work?
Is it first party past the post wins?
e.g. say there were only 3 parties:
Red got 40%
Blue got 30%
Yellow got 30%
Do Reds become the government?
Or can the Blue & Yellow parties form a coalition government?
And what is a hung parliament........I know that we would like to hang parliament.....but what is one?

The party with the most amount of seats gets to be boss. If there is a 'tie' then we have coalition.
Hung is where they are all equally represented (I think).

One party needs a majority of 20 seats to win the election. If there's a smaller majority then it's a hung parliment. If there is a hung parliment, normal procedure is to fly in all the porn stars and have a huge orgy.
But if there is a hung parliment, then I don't actually know what'll happen. Was talking to my flatmate about it last night and didn't get that far lol

i will give two answer....
if we had P.R.......then
Red got 40%
Blue got 30%
Yellow got 30%
then parliament would be hung... the red would have the most seats but the blues and yellow could run the country in a minority colaition... this way every ones votes count....
but since we have first past the post....
Red got 40%
Blue got 30%
Yellow got 30%
it doesn't make a jot of difference.... for example.. if it was the same result in every since constitunacy.. then reds would have every single seat and blues and yellow would have none.....
they reckon that only about 20% (about 120) of the seats contested are actuall contests... the other 80% of seats are safe.........so for example a donkey could wear a red rosette and win... so my vote counts for nothing.......

Isn't a Hung Parliament a gathering of single guys in a layby all nattering about anything except sex which is really what they're there for? :undecided: :undecided:

Not forgetting the "single transferable vote" which ensures that EVERYBODYS vote has relevance.
Sorry about the seriosity (such a word? :shock: ) it`s just a little splash back from when elections mattered.

Yes. Haven't checked but I think in my lifetime the government has always had a majority against them. Only the Liberals have said they would change this to Proportional Representation. This is not in the interest of the major parties.
Solution? Move to Switzerland.
