I've noticed if you dont have an advert (which shows the post ocde) and tick "Allow pthers to calculate distance from me=NO" it seems that you are still included in the distance calculations on the "my search" even though the list comes up as "N/A" in the distance column.
When you click on a profile then you get a translated location based on the users selected options (post code, town, area)
I may be wrong, but that seems to be what happens....
The advert pages obviously need some more code to translate postcode to location/area/etc based on the users selections.
What this does mean is that it shouldnt be possible to triangulate the post ocde any closer than within 5 miles but you would first need to do some fairly detailed searching to find a 5 mile ring (within/without the under x miles) then repeat this using other post codes to create a group of rings and then finally work out the intersection...
Assuming someone has not used their real name it would still be impossible to then find more details about the person.
Even with a given mileage its still not that easy to triangulate using post codes unless in a very under populated area as most post codes cover a very large physical area, or a small area with a large populus. DE7 (mine) covers a multitude of places in derby... like wise NG1 covers a huge number of streets in Nottingham.... its hardly pinpoint accuracy.
hi there guys, well what a start to the new site.
if the post code thing is to work, the site needs to carry the information,so we have some idea where the people live!!!
or we could just go back to the old way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It couldnt find my postcode, so I had to make do with the nearest could find........I prefer location by name rather than postcode! Postcode sucks!!!!
Where's a postie when you need one?

What an idiotic idea it was to change the whole system-so now you've got to learn the uk's postcodes to know where people are located-now you cant email people direct etc etc I thought it was in everyones interests to improve/make easier but the changes are a step backward-you've created more 'hassle' in using this site-whoever has taken over the running of this hasnt a clue-I for one am put off now and will use other sites who make things easier not more difficult, tony
Isn't there a site somewhere on the web with all the postcodes listed and representred on a geographical map? Perhaps a link to the site, if one exists would be a good idea.
Popping into each tome you want to check the location of a postcode could get a bit tiresome.
Cheers

I'm inclined to agree with guy4fun; those of you who are exclusively forum or chatroom users, with no interest in the photo-ads, have every right to hide your location via the "ZE1" option, nothing wrong with that. But it was always recognized that SH was 3 fairly distinct sections - the forum, the chatroom and the ads: just because location/postcode is of little interest to the forumites, that doesn't mean the rest of the site users have no valid opinions.
I have never been a great forum user (although I do use the chatroom), but I did browse the photo-ads. As a couple seeking a single female, there were never many to look through, and we could always just look at the locations to decide whether to open the ad or not. Now, I find myself looking at the 'women seeking couples' section with no clue as to whether the ads may or may not be local (ignoring the fact that many seem to be couples seeking women - see, it's not just single blokes!). The search is of little use - selecting what seem to be the applicable options seems to give ANY 'single women' ads, including those seeking single men or women, which are of no use to us Nor do the search results show you any of the text of the ad, which the category section does, so there's no pre-vetting possible.
All in all, as a previous user of the photo-ads, I just can't be arsed any more. Still, at least it's an improvement, eh?
