didn't realise lying down was illegal in the first place...
You've still not fixed that TV aerial then James??? confused :? :? :? wink
Its been being talked about for a while, think they want to designate a certain industrial estate as a suitable as much as i remember
The theory is that it will remove the problem from residentail areas.
Does that mean i get to apply for a new job

That's such a sweet spelling mistake :smoke:
I think a lot of major cities are talking about making 'safe areas' or distinct 'red light districts' so everyone is aware of what's going on and the police and other relevent authorities can control what's going on easier and stuff. I know there have been things about doing something like this in Preston before, but there is too much opposition from local people worried about the devaluation in house prices that it would cause etc. I actually know someone who runs a couple of brothels, she even offered me a job once (I did laugh and say NO before anyone asks), and I don't think she's ever had any problem with the law despite it all being totally illegal still. The ironic thing is, the local papers have massive right wing articles about how prostituion shouldn't be legalised, all deviants should be lynched and the internet should be banned to discourage the spread of these immoral activities, and then in the back pages there are adverts including the addresses and details for numerous 'massage parlours'.
I've discussed the legalisation of prostitution with a few people and I'm still not quite sure where I stand on the subject. I'm all for the idea of it, but in practise there doesn't seem to be too much point in doing it here because there isn't much of a problem with pimp culture and it's mostly run by the women themselves.
So i take it as a yes then!

LMAO!!!! lol
It might surprise a lot of you to know that prostitution is actually legal. The illegal activities are pimping, having a brothel with more than 2 'working girls' at any one time, or touting for business on the streets.

Yeah and living off immoral earnings. So I could technically get people to pay me for sex totally legally, but I wouldn't be able to support myself with the money, or actually get business in the first place, without breaking the law rolleyes
Not that I'd want to. Not that anyone would pay me either hahaha.
There has been a surprising development in Germany regarding sex work and the unemployed. Listen carefully......
Recently men and women who have been claiming dole and unemployed benefits have been referred to jobs (not actual prostitution, but related jobs) in the sex industry as acceptable employment. If they don't apply they may lose their benefit entitlement. How about that?
It is argued by the local authorities that because the sex trade is legitimate, jobs within it represent suitable employment for the working population. This is an EU state. There may be implications relevant to our dear island community.
So, any thoughts about this idea. Would you like to turn up at the dole office one morning and then find yourself working as a rent boy in the afternoon? Or are you already moonlighting?
Terrifying prospects lie ahead or maybe thrilling times for the adventurous. Would there be a kite mark shag?

Can't see anything similar happening in this country. Remember a while back when job centres got all prissy and wouldn't accept job vacancies from Ann Summers in their lists?
Mike.
I'm sure Wayne Rooney is behind it al anyway confused
Some places will go to great lengths to prepare for the European City of Culture..
Bloke2005 (scouser, well originally)
I don't see the problem of having legalised or 'tolerance' zones in towns and cities where sex workers can ply their trade. There is always going to be a demand for prostitutes, it's the oldest profession as they say, it's never going to go away. If they locate them in areas where they are not going to be near peoples homes then why not? I can understand people being upset and angry when girls are touting on their street and they get kerbcrawlers propositioning them and the area gets a reputation but if it is, for instance, an industrial estate which is pretty much empty at night, why not?
My highest priority would be to protect sex workers, to have a safe place they can work with advice, health checks and condoms readily available. If the authorities really thought about it and stopped viewing it with the hysteria of the right wing press in their minds then it would make perfect sense. Acceptance is the only way to go IMO.

Further to what duncanlondon wrote:
I used to work at the Job Centre and perhaps these times are already putting theirselves onto us as i worked there for around 5months and during that period there were around 12Ann Summers jobs but each with a warning that you dont need to go for them and that benefits would not be effected but however towards the end there were also around 3-4 "Escort" jobs on our systems. Well with me being young etc whenever i got a nicelooking girl etc who id seen a few times i decided to offer her the info etc and her boy friend already had.
Not sure if she got it but having looked at the people who were going for it including a 18y old lad with reading and writing problems and a 58y old woman with astma both the action and converstation im sure is going to be limited :-)
