I'm off to the doc tomorrow to get some help to quit the dreaded weed. :smoke: I know it's bad for me, it's a disgusting habit and I need to get into training for my charity trek in Morocco next year but I need help. Even with my current bout of tonsillitis I'm still puffing away :smoke: albeit menthols and only 1/2 a stick at a time but that shows how bad I am Zyban, here I come! I wish you luck with getting the Zyban hun.... Our Dr wouldn't give it to us as we haven't attended a quit smoking clinic... That's all well and good but the times the clinic's are on, we are not able to go... Steve is at work and I have the kids so I wouldn't be allowed to attend
If he just gives me something for now I'd be happy enough. I realise I can't do this without some sort of help. I've tried the gum before and it tastes horrible and the patches just don't roll well enough to keep the tobacco in place :giggle:

If you WANT to quit you will...... I quit for 18 years then when my dad passed away I stupidly had one after a few days of not sleeping, smoked again for a few years then last November I stopped again. No Zyaban No patches no group therapy just a will and a need to stop. NOT 1 single fag in a year now and no regrets at all. No craving no nothing anymore... Ok a self gratifying post maybe but anyone wanting to stop can. The only thing you have to do is say to yourself ''I am not starting to smoke'' instead of I'm trying to quit.... The cravings do pass and jeeze you feel so much better.... Mike

Kudos to you Mike As much as I WANT to quit, I know I'm too weak willed to do it alone. I mean, if I can still puff away with a desperately sore throat then I DO need help Minxy, I'll let you smoke in the kitchen but what do I get in return

congratualtions to you but unfortunately not all people have the same willpower as you have and need some extra help to stop smoking. I know for one that I couldnt give up on my own, so good luck to sassy I hope it goes well for you. overcoming a nicotine adiction on your own is one thing but the most respect I can ever give is to someone very close to me who gave up a herion addiction with no medical or counsilling help it just goes to show that some people find things easier than others....... best of luck sasy......hope you manage it.......
Nicotine is proven more addictive than heroine! Not blowing any special trumpet for myself either... anyone can quit smoking if they want to. Seriously it all depends on how bad you want it, if you try to quit smoking for any other reason other than you want to it doomed from the start! If you start off saying I am trying or I am giving it a go then its half hearted.. and again doomed! If you mean it and really want it its simple, nothing but you as in person who is quitting picks up a ciggie and lights it that is what makes you a smoker, its not the nicotine after just 48 hours there is no nicotine in your body to cause the need as such after that its purely the habit you need to break. Most people who say they want to stop are doing just that and fair play its thier body to do as they please, we still meet smokers we still go out and have no hang ups with those that do smoke whatsoever. I CHOOSE not to smoke so I don't. Anyone who wants the same can have it just the same.. Just don't pick one up and light it, its not hard honest! After a while the need and habit stops.... Simple! yep, from my research this is true as well but this thread is disscusing stopping smoking or as I mentioned stopping a drug habbit.............ceasation of a habbit it harder than starting one.......and I don't think ( although this is only my expierience) that you can say that it is easier to give up heroin that nicotine.
2 years on zyban worked for me but failed to work on a fellow group member so fair to say works for some but not all but hey there s loads more other treatments out there just as worthy and yes you do feel shed loads better good luck

Good luck hun. I desperately want to stop, tried a number of times, gave up for 5 years then after splitting up with my ex started again. Tried all the remedies (except Zyban coz' the doctor won't give me it) and considering hypnosis. Its not as easy as some people think and some people are lucky enogh do do it without help and their own willpower. All due respect to them, unfortunately I don't have that willpower. Fingers crossed for you

I've been very down and weepy anyway for the last few weeks but I'll give it a try. I will admit I've puffed this morning ( despite my raw throat infection ) but I've only had one which is good for me.
Having had a heart attack almost 2 yrs ago you would have thought the doctor would fall over himself to give me something that would help me kick the fags wouldn't you... Not so.................As Shireen has stated earlier in the thread he wont even think about it untill we have been to the stop smikong clinics and support groups and failed to quit... The fact that its impossible for us to go to these clinics is besides the point... Godd luck to ya Sassy....If you manage to get the prescription let me know who your doctor is as I feel a move coming on...
