Two corn snakes - one ordinary and one amelanistic. Both about five feet long now.
We had a dog but she died very recently  and I miss her terribly  The snakes are lovely to handle but they are quite boring really - don't do tricks or anything lol
FB you are sooooo naughty....
they arent meant to do tricks.....there a species that has gone unchanged (except size) for millions of years.....the perfect hunting machine......handling them stimulates their senses and they get used to being handled very quickly...in america ive picked up corn snakes in the wild and never been bitten off 1 ....good starter snake.....
i had about 10 corns in a big tank with a boa constrictor.....feeding time was a bit of a bugger though...

I used to own a 14ft burmese pythons, was only small when i got her and soon out grew everyting lol i love snakes, i like smaller ones cause they faster and more fun but the big ones are just great, mine used to get on the bath with me  wasn't much room left tho with a 14 ft python coiled round the plug, also used to keep rats but they not that unusual are they?

Oh how I remember that conversation, went something like....
"alison do you know what you want for your birthday".. then I grabbed a chair and waited for the.. new wardrobe, diamond ring, mink coat etc etc etc.....
And what does she come up with.... a friggin snake for god sake.... I can't dent to being nervous tot he point f shitting myself to start...... but she did grow on me.... wasn't good when we had to part company with her ( and I do stress had to, we would still have her now had it been up to us)

One anole ...awwwwww
two spiney lizards .... always bonking
two Green Iguanas
one Riticulated Python
and any feckin number of things dumped on my desk and doorstep that needed nursing, including seagulls, slow worrms, 3 new born kittens rescued from the back of a dustcart and a 7 week old fox cub with his tail cut off and parvo
But he made it and we found him a great home biggrin
I love snakes and lizards - was having a chat earlier today about my passion for horses too, but, in all cases, i'm no where near knowledgable enough about reptilia or horses to take on the responsibility of taking one on as a 'pet'.
I can usually be found in a local aquatics centre & reptile house on Sundays admiring their collection from a distance but, until I have the space, time and knowledge to keep a snake :inlove: , i'll be making my sunday trip for a while to come yet!
but, I do have a ginuea pig and a 3 legged hedgehog!

but, I do have a ginuea pig and a 3 legged hedgehog!

what did you do with the other leg?
well...you dont eat a good hedgehog all at once do you ????
its far harder to look after the needs of a cat or dog....
though its a bit of expense setting up its very cheap afterwards depending on which snake you choose....
as mentioned earlier darkfire please ask anything you like if you fancy taking 1 of the lovely little critters home with you.....
ill give you questions to ask them which i promise you they wont have the slightest fekin idea what your on about smile
are you following me?
lol
the other leg got amputated after i sat for an hour pulling maggots out of it with a pair of tweezers, she'd been attacked/bit/ dunno dunno  but there wasnt much of a leg/ hind quarters left anyway.
I once had a Sudan Plated Lizard called Des, and a pet hedgehog..............well, househog.........called Chog.
Had various dogs, rats, rabbits and now own four of the most spolied rotten cats in the country.
darkfire....hunny.....
i am just trying to be helpful and offering you my services should you decide to join the herp world smile
and yes.....im following you biggrin

This seems to have gone to a snake appreciation thread but as different "pets" - and I use the word carefully as they were NEVER pets - I have had a couple of owls and a kestrel in my time.

Some mates of mine moved in next door to a large bird of prey (not sure exactly what sort, but not an owl).
It looked damn impressive on it's perch in the garden (they live on the edge of town in the Yorkshire Dales), but their two cats had learned to give it a wide berth, after a couple of initial scares before they realised how long it's teather was. smile
Personally I've always liked the idea of keeping some kind of weird marine life, possibly hermit crabs or some such. If I didn't have a cat I'd also be tempted by some sort of mustelid, probably a ferret. There was a woman who lived near us in Brum who used to take her two out to the shops on leads.
I did also see a bloke years ago who kept a pot bellied pig and grazed it on a lead in a park in Bournville :)
If the bird grows up with another animal it is usually ok and learns that it is not lunch!
I have photos of my cat with a snowy owl and they are sitting together to keep warm! They never went for each other. But yes, you must remember that a bird of prey is just that and it goes for an easy meal - that is its nature. You never own a bird like that - you only look after it .
Although I felt OK about the cat, there was a lady with a small, toy dog that used to walk past and the bird (Kergan) regarded it as a free meal and looked at it every time.
I do NOT recommend these birds as pets. We took on a barn owl that some kid had and he had been feeding it chicken fillets from the local supermarket! You must be prepared to cut up mice, rats, chickens etc. (and remove the yolk salcs), feed the bird the bones feathers and all as that is what they need, keep the bird's weight constant, check the pellets etc. If you are prepared to do this and fly the bird it ireally s the best thing out.
But please they are NOT pets.

we had a large plot of land when me and my sister were young....kept all kinds of farm animals and fancy bantams, ducks, geese, at one time or another....
i remember my iss and i being upset when flossy our sheep died....my mum was very considerate but dad just told us to stop whining and eat our lamb dinner b4 it got cold
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm lamb dinner....
then there were countless mad cocks.....cockerels.......where you had to twat the bastard beofre you get in to collect eggs........not to be taken lightly when the buggers had 2 inch bone spurs on their legs........
i walk past the plot on most days with the dog and wonder if any 1 knows of the assorted buried animals intered there over the years......im just glad we didnt have any old indian burial grounds in my area......
