thought about this form the PHOBIAS thread as some of the answers reminded me...
a few years ago i used to own a pet shop in clitheroe....it was small but i didnt sell small furries only things with scales etc...
i had about 30 snakes and 40 lizards there all the time....oh and a few parrots and birds etc.....
i registered with CITES for endangered species and was on their breeding program for endangered snakes.....including breeding stock i had about 50 snakes ..apart form the pet stock...corn/rat/milk snakes i had some quite rare snakes such as rosy boas....red tailed including as a show piece i kept my own burmese pythons at the shop..female was 13 feet long and the male about 9 feet.....
soooooooooooo without further ado...does any 1 else have or has had a "different pet"
i could go on and on regerding reptilia but ill wait and see what other peoples experiences are....then i might go into more nold and quite dangerous adventures lol
I used to own a 14ft burmese pythons, was only small when i got her and soon out grew everyting lol i love snakes, i like smaller ones cause they faster and more fun but the big ones are just great, mine used to get on the bath with me  wasn't much room left tho with a 14 ft python coiled round the plug, also used to keep rats but they not that unusual are they?
I used to want a snake when I lived at mums, mainly cos nan said she wouldn't ever come to our house if I goit a snake... I figured that would be good cos she always gave me grief about wearing mini skirts lol    (Awwwwwwww, loved her really though :rose: ).
I've had dogs, cats (under protest rolleyes ), rabbits, guinea pigs, budgies, stick insects, fish, and bred hamsters, gerbils, rats, and mice.... but never had owt unusual... I'm sooooooooooooooo boring confused wink
My ex bought some African land snails off the net a while ago... bloody massive things they were........ not sure whether he's still got em though
burmese python (pythonus molorus bivititus)
you must really love snakes NN lol.....not a snake for beginners but once every blue mono some 1 gets 1 thats willing to look after them and not get rid once they get to 4 feet lol...
it must of been well looked after to get to that size and is only 3.5 feet short of the captivity record smilei would guess you had it out of its vivarium most of the time and they love a swim.....
i once came home pissed and took out my burmese pair and fell asleep ..i woke up in the morning ..the male was asleep over my face and the larger female was draped over my legs and coiled up in fornt of me :)
walked downstars (much to mums dismay) wearing the male as a turban :)
Got five peecocks outside. Not mine but I want to just pick them up and... well steal them. They make such a strange noise when they talk I can't help but laugh.
If I can ever get the feckin pics off Mk III's pc, I'll show you some pics.
All animals have been pets to me, including the rare breed sheep we used to have and Bob the pygmy goat, his girlfriend Vicky; and their offspring.
I think you'll all be bored shitless with pics of Bertie, Bud and Duey by now, so I'll give you a day off wink
quick quizz hijack (google specialists lol)
all reptiles have latin names....broken down into sub species
corn snake + elaphe
pythons + pythonus
etc etc
boa constrictor is the only difference
what is latin for BOA CONSTRITOR

I'm told that they are actually thriving, but with four rear legs are that fucking quick no one can count em to confirm.

As a child i used to live with my uncle for many years and he used to bread them, he had loads, not sure on numbers as i was only young, they used to have the run of the house mostly so when i moved in with Paul and he asked me one year what i wanted for my birthday,,,well you can guess the rest  had a few funny times tho like the time she ate next doors dog  honest ask Paul lol was a young corgi, owner was NOT inpressed lol and the time we had to get transco to out to take out the fire....well you can guess why confused we had to get rid tho, at the time we was living in a council house in Mansfield and they bought out a new rule that says no snakes over 2 ft was alloweed in their homes :? after many trips to the CAB and many fights trying to keep her she had to go as they said we was in breach of our tenancy and could be evicted, and having kids putting a roof over their head came first sad She ended up going to a breeding programm in Twycross zoo (is that spelt right? ) which was good cause i knew she had a good home and we got free life time passes so we can go see her whenever we like, so next time you go your prob be looking at my snake biggrin was a very sad day tho i cyed for days after as we had had her many years :( i still miss our bath times
i am so glad there are so many "herps" on here,
but i must get one thing off my chest.....if i hear from any one about "slippery" or "slimey", when talking about snakes again, i will blow my top big time, these people may never have seen a snake in real life, let alone held one.
they are warm, and very dry (unless bathing) i never let the temp drop in thier viv's, unless preparing for breeding, and they were always lovely and warm. and each had its own personality.

You evidently got off lightly.
If my next door neighbour's boa constrictor (assuming they had one, which I don't believe they do) were to eat my cat, then I'd be 'round there after blood, and I wouldn't be too worried if it were the boa's or the neighbour's. evil

it wasn't a boa constrictor
but the dog was on our garden and as you have a responsability to keep your dogs under control at all time there was nothing they could do about it, they did call the police and their reply was...why was your dog running lose? fair question, if you let your dog run free it can just as easily get run over, does that make it the car owners fault cause there dogs running free all over? no accidents happen, just so happenen this one chose to come on my garden while the snake was out, people who have dogs should walk them on leads not just open the door and thro them out and thats just what they was told by the police and R.S.P.C.A, my animal was on my yard wink
yes but it must be factual that NN would kick ten shades of shit out of her x neighbour if he went near her snake....
its a snakey sorta thing m8 smile...
i used to get call outs from the RSPCA as theyve no idea where reptiles are concerned.....got a phone call from police a few times and was whisked away to do the snake man thing...road sealed ogg once after a black mamba was apparently spotted...went in fully loaded and came out with a juv mexican black king snake....
they are just misunderstood......they odnt wanna bite you or eat you....they just wanna live ...

Fair enough, if they were stupid enough to let a corgi wander into your garden then I suppose it deserves it's fate to some extent. (I have to admit, I've never liked dogs, and whilst I did feel a certain amount of sympathy for it, part of me was having a bit of a giggle. )
