Hello My Little Merry Festive Forumites.
In this time of Christmas cheer and Yuletide celebrations, are you aware of the backlash against what was presumed to be a guaranteed Top Pop Charts Number one from the X-Factor stables of ITV and Simon Cowell?
There has been an online campaign to place Rage Against the Machine at Number One.
Not a bad thing in my opinion, I rather like Rage Against the Machine.
Here is some on the happening.
It wouldn't have been my choice of track I have to admit, this is the .
I would much rather have seen .
but that's just me.
lp
Oh I dunno Rolp. A giant chorus of 'Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me' to Simon Bleedin' Cowell, and his fiendish plot to replace original talent with manufactured, saccharine automatons seems strangely appropriate. lol I've got my fingers crossed. ;)
N x x x ;)
p.s. The Rage really should know better than to cover the MC5. Even they couldn't better the original. :P
This is true, but it was a long time ago, they were young... foolish...
where as Cowell is older, and horrid.

i'm all for that, i'm sick of the predictable xfactor stuff....
whips

Simon Cowall has recently been quoted as saying we should thanks him for the X factor Christmas number one's. Evidently it stops stupid stuff like Mr Blobby being No.1 at Xmas lol
Erm...I don't like it. I don't like it less than I don't like the X-factor twaddle, admittedly...ok, I've managed to avoid hearing it yet but who cares lol
Gimme a bit o' anytime.
Although I agree with the cause- I do loathe the predictability of it.
In a massive ironic protest I wont be buying killing in the name of..........yeah fuck you etc.
RATM are crap ... I'd rather shove wasps up my arse. lol
I think I'll download it for free and then delete it again ... now that will show contempt :P
I could be wrong (it has been known) but I suspect that this is another big fat publicity stunt due to the fact that Rage are on the same label... all the money goes to the same place...
wink
I think that the issue wouldn't arise if Cowell didn't pick such dross for the winner's songs.
The only one I've ever thought was any good was Hallelujah.

Yup... and there was an uproar about that too... the original was released at the same time... it's all publicity and most publicity is good regardless of the outcome. Sells papers, makes the news and makes him money!
He's a clever cookie! biggrin
They are also raising money for Shelter at the same time... so if you don't want to download the track you could perhaps make the equivalent donation to the charity?

With a bit of research, you'll discover that Cowell's record company was responsible for Mr Blobby, Bob The Builder, Robson & Jerome etc.
The idea behind it is good, but as was pointed out above, RATM were signed to Cowell's label anyway, so the protest is a bit of a lame one. If they wanted to do something like this, then a bit of thought into choosing a song on a small independent label would've been better. There are plenty of things out there.
My choice would've been something like Darkthrone, Gorgoroth or Dying Fetus.

Because it always makes me laugh. lol

And that wasn't a patch on the original :lol2:
RATM are dull, and hypocrites, but the whole thing is funny and that song does have lots of swearing which is both big, and clever.
I downloaded Crass's 'So What?' instead. At least that one is about Jesus... I downloaded it for free, which I imagine they would approve of, unlike RATM, who have spoken out against illegal downloading as it might affect how many millions of dollars they get for selling anarchy.
It's still a fun song though - complete with swearing - so I'm kind of torn. The littl bit of me that just loves such obvious mainstream rebellion loves the whole campaign, and with it being christmas I don't want to be cynical, so... go Rage biggrin
RATM were on Radio 5 Live this morning and were cut off when they kept swearing. lol
However, they did say that any money they make from this will be donated to the homeless charity Shelter. So there's a real reason for d/ling it.

And neither of them is a patch on....
lol
didnt like RATM but love them now they are most of Audioslave along with the delictible audio tones of mr chris cornell of soundgarden fame mmmmmmmmmmmmm
so rage against the soundgarden gets my vote
Given the faux-anarchism of it all, it reminds me of a Kryten quote;
"I'm back & I'm bad!"
"But within certain sensible, pre-set parameters, of course"

They dont need to release anything these days now we have downloads. You can make whatever you like number 1 as long as you can download it.

Saw them at Reading one year, can't remember when exactly, but they were awesome.
So glad they ae No.1, that was definitely 65p well spent!
Let's face it though, it'has only put off the inevitable by a week as RATM will sell preciseley zero next week.

Doesn't matter. The point has been made and Cowell and the X Factor don't have the coveted Christmas number 1 spot. That's what this campaign was all about.
