We've seen them on the silver screen for years - forever fighting the good fight and protecting the world from evil. Stars like Clint Eastwood, The Rock and Sylvester Stallone are bigger than reality. They are ingrained in our subconscious and are a reflection of who we want to be. When Sylvester Stallone mows down twenty bad guys we share his victory. When the Rock body slams an opponent we cheer his every move.
But who are the real hard men in entertainment? Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Arnie, Sly?
Here are two for your consideration.
Lee Marvin, drinker, bruiser, war hero
Born in New York City, the son of an advertising executive and a fashion writer, Marvin attended St. Leo Preparatory College in Saint Leo, Florida (now known as Saint Leo University) after being thrown out of several schools for bad behavior. He left school to join the U.S. 5th Marine Division, serving in combat. Marvin was wounded in action during the WWII battle of Saipan, two months prior to the battle of Iwo Jima, and was sent home with a medical discharge and a rank of PFC.
Audie Murphy, decorated war hero
Audie Murphy was an American soldier in World War II. In 27 months of combat action, he became the most decorated U.S. combat soldier of World War II.
Murphy received the Medal of Honor, the military's highest award for valor, along with 32 additional medals awarded for bravery and service.

One thing to realise is that the U.S. award medals if you get up in time for breakfast 3 times in a row.
they also get medals if they look at a war zone on a map....... feckers. rolleyes

If you ever get to see the film of his life story you'll see what a man he was. If only half of it was true he was still a real hero.
Audie had a real baby face and appeared in loads of b-films but none the less a real hard man.
What's the purpose of the thread - am I missing something?
Celebrating war heroes (?)
Celebrating violence on telly/film?
Discussion? They most definitely are NOT a reflection of who I want to be, thanks very much confused

If it's a question of who'd take the gold cup in a 'celebrity whoop-ass' competition, either living or dead, i don't think there would be many who could beat the skill, speed and power of Bruce Lee worship

James Cagney?

Why Jimmy Cagney? You dirty rat!!!
Bruce Lee

i agree
One person that would probably not be cosidered if this was a top 50 TV programme covering it is Pat Roach ('Bomber' in in Auf Wiedersehen Pet). A quiet, gentle bloke but about 6ft4 of rock solid brick shithouse build. He was a former pro wrestler, body builder and stunt man who worked and was highly respected by arnie, stallone and many other hollywod action stars, a true natural born hardman

Do you think he's old enough
to get served with chips ???
Depends - is he young and tender enough to be filleted and fried or would he need slow-cooking and serving as a casserole?
