WHY oh bloody why do some women insist on using their real name in adverts or more often e-mail addresses?
Do they not know how dangerous this is?
Oi! Sort it out fat controllers. Why no warning. These people are coming onto your site; often believing it’s a safe community. Fact is, it isn't.

erm..........and for mIRC users everywhere!!!
if you're a chatroom reg, and you use mIRC, and you forget to change all those settings, we can find out all sorts!!! soz guys! public duty n all!

actually what i meant to say was, for a registered user, mIRC users can see your real email addy, ((( with name if you use it on email to register! ))) your current IP ( static IP if on broadband ) last time on site etc etc ((( it's no secret any mIRC user can do it!!! ))) didn't mean to get scary!
and if i've just given too much away hope a mod will delete this sharpish!!! see DreamerHelen passim for good reasons re: google etc

but if...say.....a user called neilinleeds registers his nickname for the chatroom using his real neilinleeds name, anyone using mIRC ( a chatroom client infinitely better than the Java thing that stops you all getting in there! ) can see that nailinleeds real name is neilinleeds ( or something, get it??? ) and if, for example you're on broadband, and i was a malicious type, i could see your current ( every single day ) IP address ( thats your internet connection thingie ) and well i could just try and try again and again to send you all kinds of nasties ( viruses, trojans etc ) despite your firewall ( unless you're clued up and have a firewall that completely makes you all stealthy n stuff! there ain't a whole lotta ways around it, but at least change your settings in mirc or use an email addy that ain't id'able as you personally!
((( don't worry the ops will still kick you ((( or your abusive chatroom "friend" ))) all over no matter what you try n do to hide......they have secret opping powers!!!

I only found out recently that when I sent an e-mail to someone my real name was attached to it. Didn't realise. Forgot that when I signed up I had registered with my name. Aaarrgghhh. Don't know how many e-mails I've sent and nobody had ever told me until last week (and it was a member of this site who did - so thank you very much).
My name is unusual enough to come up top on Google so even if you didn't know where I lived within 30 secs you could find my address and telephone number. This sort of freaked me out a bit - I'm glad it was someone on here who pointed it out to me and not someone pissed off at a piss off.

What makes you think we can stop them?? And why is it OUR fault that people can't think for themselves?? And why do you think it's just women?? LOADS of men use very identifiable email addresses, some have even registered their work account!! :shock: :shock: Haven't seen any women do THAT!!
We have enough trouble getting them to read the information that Mark has spent hours writing - the site AUP, the photo ads rules, the dogging advice, the stickies with site policy, the no telelphone numbers etc etc - without this too.
There is a sticky about email addresses being shown in the public forum and I often edit out posted email addresses cos it means that EVERYONE can see your address and not just registered users.
We often email users of the ads system to tell them about their email addresses being too identifiable but that's what they choose. Lots of people post full facials of themselves, that's what they choose. Some tossers even go as far as posting pictures of under-age family members and that's when we step in and regulate. One guy I wrote to told the whole world his real name, his real occupation and showed his full face too -as he was asking for another male I emailed to warn him - he was quite happy to have it all out there in public view.
This site isn't dangerous - some of the TTTTT (tm Jags2004) ARE and that's why Mark has got Site Moderators and System Operators (for the chatroom) in place so we can intervene when things look dodgy. Sometimes we over-react when things sound 'off' and then find that all is OK - when in doubt we tend to err on the side of caution.
One thing we always advise people to do is to have their email address, on the photo ads system, anonymous. The TTTT (tmJags2004) of the outside world can see any email address which is shown and then harvest that address for spamming/virus attack or email bombing with abusive post. If the address is anonymous then the person emailing HAS to be registered on the site and so the offensive stuff can be tracked and stopped. We are trying to help and advise but some people just don't want help or advice. :cry:

What a lot of people don't realise is that when they create an anonymous account in the name of say "horny_tart_ " they are also asked to create a profile in which they put their real name and address etc. If you put your real name in this profile, ie Jane Ramsbottom, then when you send an e-mail the recipient gets an e-mail from Jane Ramsbottom - horny_tart_ .
I've had to warn several people that they were doing this because they just didn't realise it was happening. One girl that was living in a very small village in Wales had quite an unusual surname and was the only person in the local telephone directory with that surname. No prizes for guessing how long it would have taken to follow the trail on-line and get her address.
If you have a account and wish to keep your name anonymous then do the following:
Click 'options' in the top right hand corner of the page.
On the next page click 'personal' in the left hand margin.
Then click 'my profile'
Whatever names you have in the 'first name' and 'last name' fields on this page are given out with every e-mail you send. I have my first name set to steveg and my surname set to nw. If you want to remain anonymous then you need to change yours too.

i did try and check check me info, but was rather drunk at the time having checked that earlier, it only works showing the *real* IP and email addy if i use the commands on meself! DOH! 
what i should have said was,((( thinks a bit ))) that often as a mirc user i can see your full name when you join, etc in the chatroom. if you used a real name addy when you set things up. sorry guys. apologies. my dumbass mistake!!
